Article Synopsis
  • A variable-field NMR system utilizes individually programmed electropermanent AlNiCo-5 magnets to create a dynamically tunable magnetic field for precise measurements.
  • An ultra-broadband front-end allows for efficient power transmission across various frequencies, enabling robust operation without needing to tune the probe.
  • The technique demonstrates effective differentiation of dairy products based on proton spin-lattice relaxation variations, suggesting its potential as a cost-effective alternative for advanced NMR applications and improved MRI techniques.

An automated instrument for improving the sensitivity of nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spectroscopy is presented. The device is capable of pre-polarizing samples within a custom Halbach-type permanent magnet and then moving them into an external probe for zero-field NQR detection. Polarization transfer between protons and nitrogen (N) nuclei in the sample occurs during demagnetization, thus increasing the amplitude of the detected NQR signals.
