Ethanol extracts obtained from 13 poplar propolis samples originating from various European countries by traditional maceration were tested for total polyphenols, flavonoid content, and antioxidant activity. Moreover, the content of 18 polyphenolic compounds (from the group of phenolic acids and flavonoids) was determined using the HPLC method. The inhibitory effect of six selected extracts with the highest activity was assessed by well-diffusion method against five strains ( spp.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFFlavoring olive oil is an increasing trend in olive oil processing. Growing consumer interest in flavored olive oils by natural material brings the need to evaluate the key limiting factors which is its microbiological stability. The present research compares the microbiological quality of olive oil flavored by 3 flavors (rosemary, garlic, and lemon), prepared by 3 methods to determine changes during storage.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe objectives of this study were to evaluate sensory, chemical, and physical characteristics of olive oil prepared by three flavoring methods and analyze changes during storage (0, 3, and 6 months). Favored olive oil was prepared by three flavoring methods (fresh, dried, and essential oil). Selected sensory, chemical, and color parameters were monitored based on international standards.

The characteristics of whole-meal fine flours, slurries, doughs, and breads prepared from black, red, and white glutinous rice were, therefore, compared with commercially used refined fine and semi-coarse white rice flours. The pasting properties of different flours were strongly influenced by the type of rice they were made from.

Moreover, the plant has a rather unclarified classification. Traditionally, two types of have been distinguished, hemp as a source of fiber and low THC content, and marijuana with high THC levels, which is used as a drug.

Methods And Results: Nineteen polymorphic microsatellite loci were developed using DNA-enriched libraries sequenced by Ilumina technology and were then used to genotype 101 individuals from five populations from Austria, Slovakia, Poland, and the Czech Republic. Of the markers tested, 68% were polymorphic in four of the five investigated populations, with one marker polymorphic in all populations.
The aim of the study was monitoring of phthalic acid esters in agricultural soils of the Czech Republic over the period of 6 years, namely dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP). Monitoring took place in twelve regions of the Czech Republic. Soil samples were taken evenly from the top and bottom soil horizons using a zig-zag pattern.

Premise Of The Study: Polymorphic microsatellite markers were developed to study genetic diversity, population structure, and dispersal strategies of the highly invasive species (Polygonaceae).
Methods And Results: Fifteen polymorphic microsatellite loci were developed using a 454 sequencing approach and used to genotype 72 individuals from six populations in Austria and France. All markers were polymorphic in at least one investigated population, and the number of alleles ranged from one to four alleles per locus.

Unlabelled: In the case report, bilateral cystoid macular edema with optic disc edema on the left side in young man is described. As etiology out of the systemic diseases, we considered the hypertension. The results of the neurological examination, including the brain CT examination were physiological.

Material And Methods: In our group of patients, we examined 46 eyes of 23 patients with the suspicion of optic disc drusen during the period from May 2013 until January 2014. In all adult patients, we examined the anterior and posterior segment of the eye biomicroscopically, established the visual acuity, measured the intraocular pressure, examined the visual field, performed the ultrasound examination of the eye (A and B-scan), analyzed the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) by means of optic coherence tomography (OCT), and color and red-free photography.

We determined the complete mitochondrial genome of the facultative entomopathogenic nematode Oscheius chongmingensis. The mitogenome length was 15,413 bp and similar to other Rhabditids contains genes for 2 rRNAs, 22 tRNAs, and 12 proteins (ATPase subunit 8 is missing). Predicted tRNAs indicated the secondary structure typical for chromadorean nematodes.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA solution for peritoneal dialysis stored in bags made from material which does not contain diethylhexyl phthalate is significantly less contaminated with this plasticizer, as compared with a solution stored in bags made from PVC with diethylhexyl phthalate. The afferent tube which contains diethylhexyl phthalate in all sets investigated by the authors is not an important source of this plasticizer for the peritoneal solution. Contamination of the peritoneal solution with dibutyl phthalate added to colours used for print on the bags (inscription on the outside of the bag) was found in both types of bags (no significant differences were found).

As regards the degree of mechanical damage of the inserted tube of the infusion set this system did not differ from the keyboard system which is used by the majority of manufacturers as the driving unit of infusion pumps. Mechanical damage of the infusion set made from PVC was evaluated by the authors with regard to the amount of phthalic acid extracts which are added to PVC as softening agents and are not chemically linked.
