Background: Numerous articles related to S100 proteins have been recently published. This review aims to introduce this large protein family and its importance in the diagnostics of many pathological conditions in children and adults.

Data Sources: Based on original publications found in database systems, we summarize the current knowledge about the S100 protein group and highlight the most important proteins with focus on pediatric use.

Background: Teaching the steps of evidence-based practice (EBP) has become standard curriculum for health professions at both student and professional levels. Determining the best methods for evaluating EBP learning is hampered by a dearth of valid and practical assessment tools and by the absence of guidelines for classifying the purpose of those that exist. Conceived and developed by delegates of the Fifth International Conference of Evidence-Based Health Care Teachers and Developers, the aim of this statement is to provide guidance for purposeful classification and development of tools to assess EBP learning.

Background: Acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) is a relatively rare subtype of acute myeloid leukemia. It has become the best curable subtype of acute leukemias in adults due to the inclusion of all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) in the treatment. Despite the efficacy of ATRA, chemotherapy must be added in APL patients in order to maintain durable complete remission.

Background: The aim of this review was to summarise the experience on implementation of information technology to support the teaching and learning process in medicine. Particular attention was paid to web-based tutorials, their impact on increasing the effectiveness of medical instruction and motivation of students towards self-directed learning. Most of the studies selected for the purpose of the review comprised evaluation of the web-tutorials in view of practical implementation, strengths, weaknesses, and main preferences in comparison with traditional lecture-based education.

Information explosion and globalization make great demands on keeping pace with the new trends in the healthcare sector. The contemporary level of computer and information literacy among most health care professionals in the Teaching Hospital Olomouc (Czech Republic) is not satisfactory for efficient exploitation of modern information technology in diagnostics, therapy and nursing.
