Mycobacterium abscessus Infection in Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD): A Case Series.

The limited availability of donor organs worldwide, has provoked a surge in the need for implantable left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) mainly as a bridge to heart transplantation or destination therapy. The rate of complications from LVAD use is also increasing, impacting morbidity, mortality, and costs. LVAD infections due to nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) are exceedingly rare, yet very difficult to treat.

COVID-19 pandemic causing medical and public health ethical dilemmas: A case report and review of literature.

The COVID-19 pandemic presented myriad of unprecedented and daunting ethical dilemmas to healthcare workers, patients, their families, and the public health. Here we present a case of a 42-years-old Hispanic female with underlying hematological malignancy that developed severe SARS-COV-2 infection amidst the pandemic. This case illustrates some remarkable ethical dilemmas during pandemic times, including the lack of advanced directive planning, the repercussions of restricting family visits, and what ethics in crisis and moral injury entails.

Pancytopenia and Profound Neutropenia as a Sequela of Severe SARS-CoV-2 Infection (COVID-19) With Concern for Bone Marrow Involvement.

Pancytopenia and neutropenia due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are rare. Here we report a case of neutropenia as a sequela of COVID-19 with concern for bone marrow infiltration. The patient was successfully treated with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor.

SARS-CoV-2 Infection (COVID-19) and Herpes Simplex Virus-1 Conjunctivitis: Concurrent Viral Infections or a Cause-Effect Result?

The pulmonary effects of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19), are well documented; however, more evidence is needed to understand its effect on multiple organ systems. We present the case of a 69-year-old male with dyspnea for two weeks and bilateral conjunctivitis who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. He was found to be hypoxic, requiring supplemental oxygen.

Methicillin-resistant (MRSA) sepsis complicated by warm autoimmune haemolytic anaemia secondary to antimicrobial therapy.

A 61-year-old Caucasian woman presented to the emergency room complaining of left-sided chest pain and altered mentation for 3 days. Her medical history included liver cirrhosis and coronary artery disease. On admission, she was found to have methicillin-resistant (MRSA) bacteraemia.

Methicillin-resistant pericarditis causing cardiac tamponade.

Community acquired methicillin-resistant (MRSA) is an organism that can cause life threatening injuries with 6 cases of purulent pericarditis secondary to MRSA being reported so far. We report a 66 year-old -female who presented to our hospital with a two-week history of worsening shortness of breath, associated with pleuritic chest pain and chills. Patient was found to be positive for influenza type A virus two weeks prior to this presentation, but was never treated.
