Background/aims: Endoscopic band ligation (EBL) standard therapy is traditionally performed with banding from the distal esophagus upwards. However, esophageal varices (EV) with stigma of recent bleeding are not consistently banded at the first attempt. Digital single-operator cholangioscopy in the evaluation of biliary strictures after liver transplantation.

Biliary tract complications after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) are frequently reported. The diagnosis and management of these complications have become increasingly crucial, with digital single operator cholangioscopy (DSOC) emerging as an essential tool. We describe the approach to biliary complications using DSOC in 5 patients post-OLT.

The Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS) syndrome is an idiosyncratic drug-induced reaction that primarily affects the liver, lungs, and kidneys. While several organs are commonly involved, the incidence of DRESS affecting the gastrointestinal tract is rarely reported. We present a 72-year-old man with a history of epilepsy who developed DRESS syndrome manifested by eosinophilic pancolitis, cholestasis, and reactivation of cytomegalovirus (CMV) following the initiation of lamotrigine.

Hepatocellular carcinoma with tumoral extension to the inferior vena cava and right atrium.

This case report describes an 81-year-old male with Child-Pugh B chronic liver disease presenting with dyspnea and atypical precordial pain. Evaluation revealed a third-degree atrioventricular block, necessitating temporary pacemaker placement. Portable cardiac ultrasound identified an intracavitary mass in the right atrium.

Introduction And Aim: Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is a complex procedure. Clinical guidelines assess competence in ERCP through a defined number of procedures, but multiple factors are involved. Our aim was to analyze the morphology of the papilla of Vater as an independent factor in selective common bile duct cannulation during resident training.

Multiple lymphomatous polyposis: rectal prolapse as an atypical presentation of the disease.

Multiple lymphomatous polyposis is a rare entity that can involve different types of both B-cell and T-cell lymphomas, including mantle cell lymphoma. A 57-year-old male patient is presented with prolapse of the rectal canal associated with data of lower digestive tract bleeding. A colonoscopy and subsequent upper endoscopy were performed with findings compatible with lymphomatous polyposis.

Endoscopic stent placement after spontaneous esophageal perforation associated with chemoradiotherapy for esophageal cancer.

A 38-year-old male with established diagnosis of stage IV squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus treated with chemoradiotherapy (25 sessions of 50 Gy), presented with acute aphagia, thoracic pain, productive cough, and mild hemoptysis. Upon physical examination the right hemithorax presented with crepitations. An initial CT scan showed an esophageal perforation.

Primary pancreatic lymphoma: thinking beyond pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Primary pancreatic lymphoma is one of the rare primary pancreatic tumors with a low incidence compared to adenocarcinoma, which is the most frequent. Currently there are diagnostic tools such as percutaneous biopsy and endoscopic ultrasound to reach its diagnosis. Primary lymphoma of the pancreas has defined therapeutic targets as well as a better prognosis compared to other tumors.

Crack cocaine abuse as an undescribed cause of gastric outlet obstruction.

A 32-year-old male with crack-cocaine abuse for 10 years, 300 g/day. He started with epigastric abdominal pain, intensity 10/10, he went to another hospital where a perforated peptic ulcer was suspected and a laparotomy was performed, with no findings. Subsequently, he started with vomiting and weight loss, on admission, a gastric outlet obstruction (GOO) was suspected and CT scan showed a concentric duodenal growth.

Serrated polyps of the colon and rectum: a concise review.

"Serrated polyps" is the term used for epithelial lesions of the colon and rectum that have a "sawtooth" pattern on the polyp's surface and crypt epithelium. The so-called serrated pathway describes the progression of sessile serrated adenomas and traditional serrated adenomas to colorectal cancer. Said pathway is well recognized as an alternative mechanism of carcinogenesis and accounts for 15-30% of the cases of colorectal cancer.

More than 30 million persons worldwide take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) on a daily basis, and annual consumption is increasing. In addition to their analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, NSAIDs also produce well-known gastrointestinal adverse events. There is no consensus in Mexico on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of NSAID-induced gastropathy and enteropathy, and so the Asociación Mexicana de Gastroenterología brought together a group of experts to establish useful recommendations for the medical community.
