Background: Echocardiographic screening can detect asymptomatic cases of rheumatic heart disease (RHD), facilitating access to treatment. Barriers to implementation of echocardiographic screening include the requirement for expensive equipment and expert practitioners. We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of an abbreviated echocardiographic screening protocol (single parasternal-long-axis view with a sweep of the heart) performed by briefly trained, nonexpert practitioners using handheld ultrasound devices.

Fibrinolytic enzymes have been considered promising for treatment and protection of healthy circulation due its ability to dissolve the fibrin in blood clots. Extractive fermentation is a not explored and efficient downstream process which segregates the desired product simultaneously in a fermentation process fast and economically. Extraction of fibrinolytic enzymes by DPUA 1729 employing conventional aqueous two-phase systems (ATPS) and extractive fermentation with ATPS was evaluated.

Background: Echocardiographic screening in school-aged children can detect rheumatic heart disease (RHD) prior to the manifestation of symptoms of heart failure. The challenge is making this practical and affordable on a global scale. This study aims to evaluate the diagnostic utility of an ultra-abbreviated echocardiographic screening protocol involving a single parasternal-long-axis-view-sweep of the heart (SPLASH) in two dimensional (2D) and colour Doppler imaging (index test).

Qualitative analyses were carried out on solid medium with insoluble collagen 0.25% (w/v) to detect proteases with collagenolytic activity produced by Bacillus sp. In cultures incubated for 24 h, a 23 full factorial design with four repetitions at the center point was developed to analyze the effects and interactions between initial pH, temperature and the concentration of gelatin.
