Methods: A retrospective cohort of 50 preterm infants born between 24 + 4 and 29 + 3 weeks gestational age was included in the study. Sleep stages were continuously measured for 5-7 consecutive days between 29 + 0 and 31 + 6 weeks postmenstrual age using an in-house-developed, and recently published, automated sleep staging algorithm based on routinely measured heart rate and respiratory rate.
Background: Preterm born infants are at risk for brain injury and subsequent developmental delay. Treatment options are limited, but optimizing postnatal nutrition may improve brain- and neurodevelopment in these infants. In pre-clinical animal models, combined supplementation of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), choline, and uridine-5-monophosphate (UMP) have shown to support neuronal membrane formation.

Our aim was to determine the prevalence of extra-abdominal metastases on Ga-DOTATOC-PET/CT in a cohort of patients with small intestinal (Si-NET) and pancreatic NET (Pan-NET), as well as that of pancreatic metastasis in patients with Si-NET. Among 2090 patients examined by Ga-DOTATOC-PET/CT at two tertiary referral centres, a total of 1177 patients with a history of Si- or Pan-NET, were identified.

Currently, there are no treatments for WM injury, but optimal nutrition during early preterm life may support WM development. The main aim of this scoping review was to assess the influence of early postnatal nutrition on WM development in preterm infants.

Data on prevalence, prognostic significance, and clinical course of disease for SI-NET patients with VM is limited. In this retrospective analysis of 230 SI-NET patients treated at two tertiary referral centers, we found nine patients with VM (prevalence 3.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a new nutritional regimen and individual macronutrient intake on white matter integrity and neurodevelopmental outcome.
Methods: Two retrospective cohorts of extremely preterm infants (gestational age < 28 weeks) were included.
Neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) causing ectopic Cushing's syndrome (ECS) are rare and challenging to treat. In this retrospective cohort study, we aimed to evaluate different approaches for bilateral adrenalectomy (BA) as a treatment option in ECS. Fifty-three patients with ECS caused by a NEN (35 females/18 men; mean ± SD age: 53 ± 15 years) were identified from medical records.

Furthermore, an update of the WHO classification has resulted in a new nomenclature for GEP-NEN that is implemented in the clinic.
Aim: These Nordic guidelines summarise the Nordic Neuroendocrine Tumour Group's current view on how to diagnose and treat GEP-NEN patients and aims to be useful in the daily practice for clinicians.
Water from underground intakes is the main source of potable water for people in Poland, hence the protection of its resources is of great importance for the functioning of society and the economy. A new regulation in Polish Water Law imposes the obligation of performing risk analysis for water intakes, including the assessment of health hazards, factors negatively affecting water quality which are identified on the basis of hydrogeological and geological analyses. The main objective of the study was to determine the health risk for chlorides and to present an innovative approach to the health risk for non-toxic substances.

The present study aimed to investigate outcomes after tumour surgery in patients with high-grade (Ki-67 > 20%) GEP NEN or MiNEN stage I-III or stage IV. We analysed data from patients treated in the period 2007-2015 at eight Nordic university hospitals.

Response to treatment may be monitored by blood chromogranin A (CgA) and urine 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5HIAA). The aim of this retrospective study was to investigate the prognostic value of baseline CgA and 5HIAA and of the early biochemical response to treatment, and to compare different cut-off values used in the literature.

Patients with metastatic grade 3 neoplasia are usually treated with chemotherapy but have a poor progression-free and overall survival. According to the WHO 2017 classification, they are divided into neuroendocrine tumours (NETs) G3 and neuroendocrine carcinomas (NECs).

We aimed to investigate the separate associations of self-reported proximity to traffic and traffic noise with insomnia.
Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of the population included in the Respiratory Health in Northern Europe study, consisting of randomly selected men and women born between 1945 and 1973, from 7 Northern European centers.
Purpose: Ectopic Cushing's syndrome (ECS) caused by an ACTH secreting neuroendocrine neoplasm (NEN) is a rare and challenging condition. We aimed to detect predictive and prognostic parameters for ECS patients identified from a retrospective, comprehensive cohort of NENs treated at a tertiary referral center.
Methods: Medical records of 886 patients with NENs were reviewed.
Neuroblastoma (NB), the most common extracranial cancer in childhood, exhibits neuroendocrine (NE) differentiation. Two well-established NE markers, chromogranin A (CgA) and synaptophysin (syn), are used in the histopathological diagnostics. Our aims were to explore if the NE markers synaptic vesicle protein 2 (SV2) and vesicular monoamine transporter 1 (VMAT1) and 2 (VMAT2) also are expressed in human NB and if so, evaluate their usefulness in NB histopathological diagnostics.

Apart from the clinical stage at diagnosis, molecular factors are important for the characterization of the tumor and for decision on adequate treatment. Pretreatment diagnosis and molecular profiling are based on analysis of a tumor sample, obtained either by fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), cutting needle biopsy or open surgical biopsy.

Platinum-based chemotherapy (cisplatin/carboplatin + etoposide) is considered the first-line palliative treatment. Etoposide is frequently administered intravenously; however, oral etoposide may be used as an alternative.

Coal mining contributes about 45% of the total annual collective dose obtained by workers due to the exposure at places of working. One of the sources of exposure in mining are formation brines with elevated concentrations of natural radionuclides, the most common are radium Ra and Ra.

After demonstrating melatonin in enterochromaffin cells, we hypothesized that SI-NETs may express and secrete melatonin, which may have an impact on clinical factors and treatment response.
Methods: Tumour tissue from 26 patients with SI-NETs, representing paired sections of primary tumour and metastasis, were immunohistochemically stained for melatonin and its receptors, MT1 and MT2.
Aim: To study histidine decarboxylase (HDC) expression in normal and neoplastic gastric neuroendocrine cells in relationship to the main histamine metabolite.
Methods: Control tissues from fundus (n = 3) and corpus (n = 3) mucosa of six patients undergoing operations for gastric adenocarcinoma, biopsy and/or gastric surgical specimens from 64 patients with primary gastric neuroendocrine tumours (GNETs), as well as metastases from 22 of these patients, were investigated using conventional immunohistochemistry and double immunofluorescence with commercial antibodies vs vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT-2), HDC and ghrelin. The urinary excretion of the main histamine metabolite methylimidazoleacetic acid (U-MeImAA) was determined using high-performance liquid chromatography in 27 of the 64 patients.
