Decompression for cervical myelopathy.

Background Context: Cervical spondylotic myelopathy is a degenerative condition of the cervical spine. Surgical decompression is considered the gold standard of treatment, yet multiple published studies failed to yield consistent clinical results. Properly designed clinical outcomes studies using physiological, functional, and self-reported measures have the ability to define the best intervention for this disease entity.

When the bone flap hits the floor.

Objective: There is no published data in the neurosurgical literature describing the incidence, treatment, or outcome of contaminating a bone flap. We reviewed our departmental experience to determine methods of prevention and assess our treatment strategies.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed all incidents of dropped bone flaps during a craniotomy at a single medical center during a 16-year period.

Pediatric traumatic brain injury: past, present and future.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the leading cause of death and disability in children. Evidence-based guidelines for the management of this population are available; however, the data highlight significant deficiencies with few treatment standards or guidelines. Considering the limited availability of resources, it is necessary to define realistic goals.

Olanzapine overdose: a pediatric case report.

This paper reports a case of an olanzapine overdose in a 12-year-old boy. An opioid-like presentation was noted. Despite a high serum level of olanzapine, the patient made a complete recovery and showed no sequelae at follow-up.
