Adults with developmental disabilities are a growing population that experiences significant health disparities due to unmet health care and social needs. Few standardized health care guidelines are available or broadly accepted as best practices for this population. The Adult Disability Medical Healthcare (ADMH) is a community-based clinic that provides a unique multidisciplinary team-based approach to addressing the social and health care needs of adults with developmental disabilities within the framework of a Patient Centered Medical Home model.

The health and well-being of children are critically dependent on the environment in which they live. This article explores the complex relationship between the environment in which a child lives and the environmental factors that can adversely affect health and development. It also examines how awareness of these adverse factors can be helpful in promoting optimal health for children through the societal infrastructures that deal with health, the environment, and social justice.

Children spend much of their waking time at school. Many of the factors in the school environment can be improved with careful planning and allocation of resources. The pediatrician, as a child advocate, is in an excellent position to influence the allocation of school resources to improve the educational outcome.
