We investigated the phase transitions, mechanical properties, and chemical durability of a composition of 9 mol% CaO-stabilized zirconia (9CSZ) doped with 2-4 mol% CeO under thermal stress against molten slag. The monoclinic phase fraction of 9CSZ was 7.14% at room temperature, and CSZ doped with 2-4 mol% CeO showed a slightly lower value of 5.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the effects of Coix sprouts extract on itching and immune response, finding that it can significantly reduce histamine release and IL-31 cytokines in HMC-1 cells.
  • In a mouse model, the extract was more effective than prednisolone in relieving itching and improving skin conditions, including less mast cell infiltration.
  • The extract also showed anti-inflammatory properties by suppressing various factors, suggesting it could be a valuable treatment option for inflammation and itching while having variations in its beneficial compounds based on growth time.

Article Synopsis
  • NSAIDs can cause gastrointestinal injuries like ulcers and bleeding, prompting research to find preventive methods using mouse models of NSAID-induced small intestinal injury (NSI).
  • The study involved dividing mice into groups based on different feeding times after fasting for 18 hours and then observing the effects of the NSAID indomethacin on the small intestine.
  • Results indicated that feeding for longer than 14 hours worsened NSI, suggesting that the timing of food intake plays a critical role in the severity of gastrointestinal damage following NSAID use.

Patients with insomnia frequently use acupuncture as an alternative treatment to pharmacotherapy globally. The aim of this paper is to assess the effect of acupuncture on insomnia. Seven medical databases, including MEDLINE, EMBASE, CENTRAL, CNKI, RISS, NDSL, and OASIS, were used to identify studies published through July 09, 2020.

Objective: Spinal tuberculosis-associated symptoms are not so unique as to immediately indicate the proper diagnosis in most cases. Distinguishing spinal tuberculosis (Pott's disease) from pyogenic spondylitis is often difficult, and lesions metastatic from systemic malignancy are the other major entity from which spinal tuberculosis must be distinguished.

Clinical Presentation: A 27-year-old male patient presented with a history of back pain after a minor trauma 1 month ago.

Puerarin (P), an isoflavone derived from kudzu roots, has strong biological activities, but its bioavailability is often limited by its low water solubility. To increase its solubility, P was glucosylated by three dextransucrases from Leuconostoc or Streptococcus species. Leuconostoc lactis EG001 dextransucrase exhibited the highest productivity of puerarin glucosides (P-Gs) among the three tested enzymes, and it primarily produced two P-Gs with a 53% yield.

We suggest a statistical estimator to quantify the propagation of cascading transmission line failures in large blackouts of electric power systems. We use a Galton-Watson branching process model of cascading failure and the standard Harris estimator of the mean propagation modified to work when the process saturates at a maximum number of components. If the mean number of initial failures and the mean propagation are estimated, then the branching process model predicts the distribution of the total number of failures.
