Background: Virtual reality exposure and distraction are recent novel technologies for reducing preoperative anxiety symptoms. However, the effectiveness of virtual reality-enhanced interventions in adults is still controversial and has yet to be evaluated in a systematic review.
Objectives: The study aimed to (1) evaluate the effectiveness of virtual reality-enhanced interventions on preoperative anxiety symptoms in adults compared to comparators; and (2) identify the factors affecting the effectiveness of interventions.
Aims: An assessor-blinded randomized controlled trial was conducted to assess the effect of a culturally tailored low-glycaemic index (GI) dietary educational intervention on body mass index and cardiometabolic risks for Chinese people with obesity in Hong Kong.
Methods And Results: A total of 166 Chinese adults in Hong Kong with obesity were randomized to the intervention group (n = 83) or the control group (n = 83). The intervention group received the culturally sensitive low-GI dietary educational intervention based on the health belief model, consisting of an educational booklet, one individual interactive educational session, and three follow-up telephone calls.
Aims: A randomized controlled trial was conducted to examine the effects of a home-based music-paced physical activity programme guided by Information-Motivation-Strategy (IMS) model and Self-determination theory on exercise-related outcomes for patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) after cardiac rehabilitation (CR).
Methods And Results: A total of 130 patients with CHD from a regional CR centre in Hong Kong were recruited and randomly allocated into intervention (n = 65) or control groups (n = 65). The intervention group received theory-guided practical sessions on performing prescribed home-based physical activity with individualized synchronized music, and follow-up telephone calls.
Aims And Objectives: The study aimed to identify factors associated with participation in Phase II cardiac rehabilitation and to assess patient perceptions towards the usage of technologies in cardiac rehabilitation.
Background: Despite efforts to promote utilisation of cardiac rehabilitation (CR), participation among patients remains unsatisfactory. Little is known of patient decision to participate Phase II CR in a multi-ethnic country.
Background: With the natural cessation of estrogen, after menopause, women, especially those who are overweight, are at a high risk for cardiovascular disease. Diet control and adequate physical activity (PA) are recommended as the essence of promoting cardiovascular health for women after menopause.
Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of a theory-based educational program on health behaviors and cardiovascular health outcomes among overweight postmenopausal Chinese women compared with conventional didactic education.
Aim: Evidence showed self-efficacy was relevant to rural females' cervical cancer screening behaviour. However, little is known about sources of self-efficacy in cervical cancer screening among rural females. This study aimed to explore sources of self-efficacy in cervical cancer screening among rural females.

Methods: This study was a two-arm parallel randomized controlled trial. Twenty-eight patients with coronary heart disease were randomly assigned to either the intervention group, receiving a 12-week technology-assisted intervention (n = 14), or the control group (n = 14), receiving usual care.
Objective: Poststroke fatigue (PSF) is a common and debilitating problem among stroke patients. Multidimensional fatigue inventory (MFI) has been recommended to assess fatigue related to acquired brain injury. This study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of MFI among stroke patients.

Methods: An experimental study with the two-arm parallel, nonrandomized control trial design was implemented, followed by individual semi-structured interviews. Thirty rural females between 26 and 64 were recruited, with 15 in each group.
Background: Stroke is the leading cause of disability worldwide. People with stroke face a variety of physical and psychosocial issues as a result of their disability. Visual arts-based interventions refer to providing participants with structured visual arts-based activities and non-judgemental and safe environments to improve their health-related outcomes.

Design: A cross-sectional design was used.
Methods: This study analysed the cross-sectional data from the baseline assessment of 130 CHD patients who participated in a longitudinal randomized controlled trial of music-paced physical activity intervention for CHD patients (ChiCTR-IOR-17011015) (September 2017 to February 2019).
Vasomotor symptoms are frequently reported by postmenopausal women and linked with unfavorable changes in cardiovascular risk factors, suggesting a likely association with cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. This study aimed to investigate the characteristics of and associations between vasomotor symptoms, cardiovascular risk factors, and CVD risk among Chinese postmenopausal women. From March 2018 to August 2019, a convenience sample of 288 postmenopausal women who experienced natural menopause for ≥12 months were recruited from district centers of women associations in Hong Kong.

However, due to inadequate motivation and self-efficacy in performing self-care behaviours, satisfactory self-care is difficult to initiate and maintain. Smartphone-based interventions with support from nurses may be an alternative way to improve self-care behaviours and blood pressure control.

Educational interventions are commonly adopted to promote cervical cancer screening among females in rural areas; however, the characteristics and effectiveness of these educational interventions remain unclear. In this review, we aimed to identify the characteristics of educational interventions used in rural populations and to evaluate the effects of these interventions on cervical cancer screening-related outcomes.

This study aimed to assess the proportion of people at risk of sarcopenia and probable sarcopenia among Chinese community-dwelling older adults living alone and to identify the associated factors. A total of 390 older adults were included in this study.

This study aimed to compare health behaviors between the childhood cancer survivors (CCS) and their sibling controls and to examine the pattern of health behaviors of the Hong Kong Chinese CCS and its associations with their health-related quality of life and psychological distress. A cross-sectional telephone survey was conducted. A total of 614 CCS and 208 sibling controls participated in this study.

Background: Valid and reliable assessment of the multidimensional self-care of patients with hypertension is important to tailor individualized care. The Hypertension Self-care Profile (HBP SCP), which comprises behavior, motivation, and self-efficacy scales, has been widely tested in various settings.
Objective: The aims of this study were to translate the HBP SCP into a Chinese version (HBP SCP-C) and evaluate its psychometric properties among Chinese adults with hypertension.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to further evaluate the psychometric properties of the Chinese version of the Self-Efficacy for Exercise Scale (SEE-C) among middle-aged outpatients with coronary heart disease (CHD).
Design: Psychometric evaluation design.
Methods: A convenience sample of 355 CHD patients was recruited and followed up at 3 and 6 months.
Background: There is considerable interest in advocating empowerment in diabetes care. Health professionals, however, often fail to realize empowerment in clinical practice, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of an empowerment-based intervention on empowerment level, psychological distress, and quality of life among patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Background: Although China is undergoing rapid economic development, it is facing an ageing population. No data exists on malnutrition risks of older adults in an affluent Chinese society. The aim of this study is to examine these risks and identify their associated factors among home-living older Chinese adults in Hong Kong.
