Associations Between Sleep Disorders and Treatment Response in Service Members With Post-traumatic Stress Symptoms: A Secondary Outcome Analysis.

Introduction: Compared with the civilian population, a higher rate of reported sleep apnea exists among military service members resulting in inadequate sleep. Those who experience chronic sleep deprivation may suffer from debilitating problems that may compromise military mission readiness and unit safety. The purpose of the study on which this secondary outcome analysis was based was to evaluate the effect of manual standardized stress acupuncture as an adjunct therapy to an abbreviated form of cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia for sleep disturbances in post-deployment service members.

Acupuncture for Sleep Disturbances in Post-Deployment Military Service Members: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

This RCT and mixed-methods study examined the difference between two groups receiving the following interventions: (1) brief manual standardized stress acupuncture (MSSA) combined with an abbreviated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (ACBT) versus (2) ACBT alone. Three study aims: Aim (1): Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) and Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scores were analyzed using descriptive summaries, linear regression, and reliable change index (RCI). Aim (2): Journal entries were analyzed using content analysis.

Chronic depression treated successfully with novel taping therapy: a new approach to the treatment of depression.

Introduction: Despite improved research in the treatment, depression remains difficult to treat. Till date, successful treatment of depression using taping therapy has not been known yet. We report cases where patients with severe depressive symptoms were successfully treated by taping therapy, a new approach.

Using a web-based patient-provider messaging system to enhance patient satisfaction among active duty sailors and Marines seen in the psychiatric outpatient clinic: a pilot study.

Patient satisfaction is imperative in providing safe, effective, and quality patient care. Several articles have examined the effect of a secure on-line communication system in the primary care setting to improve the delivery of patient care. This article describes the use of an asynchronous Web-based messaging system in the psychiatric outpatient setting to enhance patient satisfaction among active duty military service members.
