Do-It-Yourself (DIY) Artificial Pancreas Systems for Type 1 Diabetes: Perspectives of Two Adult Users, Parent of a User and Healthcare Professionals.

The artificial pancreas system or an automated insulin dosing system has been the 'holy grail' for patients with type 1 diabetes and their caregivers who have over the years wanted to 'close the loop' between monitoring of glucose and delivery of insulin. The launch of the Medtronic MiniMed 670G system in 2017 and the subsequent release of the Tandem t:slim with Control-IQ system, the DANA RS pump compatible-CamAPS FX app and the more recent announcement of the Medtronic MiniMed 780G system have come as answers to their prayers. However, in the time taken to develop and launch these commercial systems, creative and ebullient parents of young patients with type 1 diabetes, along with other patients, technologists and healthcare professionals have developed mathematical models as software solutions to determine insulin delivery that in conjunction with compatible hardware have helped 'close the loop'.

Introducing robotic surgery into an endometrial cancer service--a prospective evaluation of clinical and economic outcomes in a UK institution.

Background: We have assessed how the introduction of robotics in a publicly funded endometrial cancer service affects clinical and economic outcomes.

Methods: The study included 196 women. Costs were divided into those for wards, high dependency, staffing, theatres, pharmacy, blood products, imaging, pathology and rehabilitation.

Screening for ovarian cancer in women with varying levels of risk, using annual tests, results in high recall for repeat screening tests.

Background: We assessed ovarian cancer screening outcomes in women with a positive family history of ovarian cancer divided into a low-, moderate- or high-risk group for development of ovarian cancer.

Methods: 545 women with a positive family history of ovarian cancer referred to the Ovarian Screening Service at the Royal Marsden Hospital, London from January 2000- December 2008 were included. They were stratified into three risk-groups according to family history (high-, moderate- and low-risk) of developing ovarian cancer and offered annual serum CA 125 and transvaginal ultrasound screening.

Evaluation of magnetic resonance diffusion and spectroscopy measurements as predictive biomarkers in stage 1 cervical cancer.

Objective: To establish whether ADC and total choline were significantly different between cervical tumors with different histological characteristics (type, degree of differentiation, presence or absence of lymphovascular invasion, lymph-node involvement) in order to establish their role as predictive biomarkers.

Methods: 62 patients with stage 1 cervical cancer were scanned at 1.5 T.

Moving a hospital library.

Many hospital libraries suffer from being poorly housed. This article describes a successful effort to find better space for a hospital library. Issues of planning, staff participation, and implementation are discussed, including constraints, what worked well, and what could have worked better.

Librarians in the Woods Hole Biomedical Informatics course.

What has come to be known as the "Woods Hole course", Biomedical Informatics, is a week-long course sponsored by the National Library of Medicine which has been offered since 1992. Its participants include librarians, clinicians, educators, and administrators. This article discusses the content of the course and its applicability to medical librarians.

Marketing the hospital library.

Many librarians do not see themselves as marketers, but marketing is an essential role for hospital librarians. Library work involves education, and there are parallels between marketing and education as described in this article. It is incumbent upon hospital librarians actively to pursue ways of reminding their customers about library services.

Epithelial ovarian cancer metastasizing to the brain: a late manifestation of the disease with an increasing incidence.

Purpose: We present the Royal Marsden Hospital experience of cerebral metastases from primary epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC) over the last 20 years and examine the evidence for an increasing incidence of EOC metastasizing to this site.

Patients And Methods: A total of 3,690 women with EOC were seen at the Royal Marsden Hospital from 1980 to 2000. Eighteen of these patients developed cerebral metastases.
