The association of perceived health status and presence of chronic conditions with physical activity in childhood cancer survivors.

Purpose: Childhood cancer survivors (CCS) are at risk for therapy-related late effects. Physical activity (PA) can minimize some late effects risk, but rates of PA are low in CCS. We aimed to determine how perception of survivor health status and presence of chronic conditions are associated with patient- or proxy-reported PA.

Health Knowledge in Adolescent Childhood Cancer Survivors at High Risk for Therapy-Related Cardiotoxicity.

Childhood cancer survivors' (CCS) knowledge about late effects can promote positive health behaviors and autonomy. Cardiotoxicity is a major source of morbidity, which can be mitigated through exercise. Descriptive and Fisher's exact statistics were used to characterize health knowledge and physical activity in CCS ≥13 years at high risk for cardiotoxicity.

Synthesis and electrochemical studies of NaCoPO as an efficient cathode material using natural deep eutectic solvents for aqueous rechargeable sodium-ion batteries.

In this work, sodium cobalt phosphate (NaCoPO) was successfully prepared by a cost-effective ionothermal method using a deep eutectic solvent (DES) for the first time. The synthesized NaCoPO was used to fabricate a cathode material for aqueous rechargeable sodium-ion batteries. The surface morphology of the prepared materials and its compositional analysis were done by using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis, respectively.

Adolescents and young adults (AYAs) vs pediatric patients: survival, risks, and barriers to enrollment.

Adolescents and young adults (AYAs; ages 15-39 years) with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) have worse outcomes than pediatric patients with ALL. Multiple factors contribute to this differential survival. AYAs are more likely to have higher-risk leukemia biology than children with ALL.

Incidence and Prevalence of Retinopathy of Prematurity in a Tertiary Care Centre of North India.

The goal of the current study was to shed light on the previous research on retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) among infants born before 34 weeks of gestation or those with birth weights (BW) under 2000 g and gestational ages between 34 and 36 weeks, with emphasis on prevalence and incidence. A prospective hospital based observational study was conducted on 160 neonates after ethical clearance within a period of four months. The study population comprised neonates less than 34 week of gestational age and those with BW less than 2000 gm and gestational age between 34-36 weeks.

A Case of Pheochromocytoma as a Subsequent Neoplasm in a Survivor of Childhood Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma.

Childhood cancer survivors are at risk for subsequent neoplasms. We describe the clinical presentation and genetic testing of a 29-year-old woman diagnosed with a pheochromocytoma 22 years post-treatment for childhood embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma of the bladder. Genetic testing for cancer predisposition revealed a pathogenic variant in BRCA2 and a variant of uncertain significance in MSH2.

Reticular Dysgenesis: A Rare Immunodeficiency in a Neonate With Cytopenias and Bacterial Sepsis.

Severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID) consists of a group of disorders defined by abnormal B and T cell development that typically results in death within the first year of life if undiagnosed or untreated. Reticular dysgenesis (RD) is a rare but especially severe form of SCID that is caused by adenylate kinase 2 deficiency and is characterized not only by lymphopenia but also by profound neutropenia. RD predisposes patients to viral and fungal infections typical of SCID as well as serious bacterial infections atypical in the neonatal period in other SCID types.

Late Effects in Survivors of Neonatal Cancer.

The current 5-year survival rate for cancer in infants is greater than 75% in developed countries. However, survivors of neonatal malignancies have an increased risk of late effects from their tumor or its treatment, which may lead to long-term morbidity and/or early mortality. This article reviews surgical approaches and chemotherapeutic agents commonly used in neonatal malignancies and their associated late effects.

Endoscopy Guided Eustachian Tube Balloon Dilation: Our Experiences.

Introduction: Eustachian tube (ET) dysfunction is a common clinical entity but its treatment is still challenging to Otorhinolaryngologists. This study is done to know the effectiveness of transnasal endoscopic balloon dilatation of eustachian tube for treatment of chronic eustachian tube dysfunction.

Materials And Methods: It is a retrospective observational study conducted between May 2018 to June 2019 at IMS and SUM Hospital, Siksha 'O' Anusandhan University, Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India.

The association of health status and cancer history of young adult survivors of childhood cancer with parental accompaniment to survivorship clinic visits.

Purpose: Adult childhood cancer survivors are frequently accompanied by a parent to survivorship clinic. From clinical evaluations among young adult survivors of childhood cancer we aimed to (1) investigate the association between accompaniment and the survivors' health complexity; and (2) determine whether accompaniment is associated with adherence to recommended surveillance tests and follow-up in clinic.

Methods: This was a cross-sectional study of all patients ≥ 18 years old at their first visit to the regional Yale Childhood Cancer Survivorship Clinic from 2003 to 2018.

Rovibronic Spectroscopy of Sympathetically Cooled CaH.

We measure the rovibronic transitions X Σ, v″ = 0, J″ → A Σ, v' = 0-3, J' of CaH and obtain rotational constants for the A Σ state. The spectrum is obtained using two-photon photodissociation of CaH cotrapped with Doppler cooled Ca. The excitation is driven by a mode-locked, frequency-doubled Ti:Sapph laser, which is then pulse shaped to narrow the spectral bandwidth.

Reassigning the CaH 1Σ → 2Σ vibronic transition with CaD.

We observe vibronic transitions in CaD between the 1Σ and 2Σ electronic states by resonance enhanced multiphoton photodissociation spectroscopy in a Coulomb crystal. The vibronic transitions are compared with previous measurements on CaH. The result is a revised assignment of the CaH vibronic levels and a disagreement with multi-state-complete-active-space second-order perturbation theory theoretical calculations by approximately 700 cm.

Vibronic Spectroscopy of Sympathetically Cooled CaH.

We report the measurement of the 1 Σ→2 Σ transition of CaH by resonance-enhanced photodissociation of CaH that is co-trapped with laser-cooled Ca . We observe four resonances that we assign to transitions from the vibrational v=0 ground state to the v'=1-4 excited states based on theoretical predictions. A simple theoretical model that assumes instantaneous dissociation after resonant excitation yields results in good agreement with the observed spectral features except for the unobserved v'=0 peak.

Evaluation of DNA binding with some selected hydrazide and semicarbazide derivatives.

A group of hydrazide and semicarbazide derivatives containing isopropylidene, benzylidene, cyclohexylidene, and phospholidene groups was synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic techniques. These compounds were tested for DNA interaction studies monitored by UV-Vis and IR data as well as molecular docking. Investigations on interactions of these compounds with DNA revealed an intercalative mode of binding between them.

Early lymphocyte recovery and outcomes after umbilical cord blood transplantation (UCBT) for hematologic malignancies.

Rapid lymphocyte recovery after bone marrow or peripheral blood transplantation is associated with improved survival. However, the impact of early lymphocyte recovery has not been examined after umbilical cord blood transplant (UCBT). We evaluated lymphocyte recovery in 360 consecutive patients with hematologic malignancy that underwent UCBT between 2001 and 2007.

A randomized, prospective, double-blind comparison of midazolam (Versed) and emulsified diazepam (Dizac) for opioid-based, conscious sedation in endoscopic procedures.

Objective: We completed a prospective, randomized, double-blinded clinical trial to compare the quality of sedation with two benzodiazepines (emulsified diazepam and midazolam) for endoscopic procedures.

Methods: Adult patients undergoing esophagogastroduodenoscopy or colonoscopy were eligible. Exclusion criteria included: drug allergies, altered mental status, untreated glaucoma, active pancreatitis, hyperlipidemia, resident physician training, or cases done outside the Endoscopy unit.

Grapefruit juice increases felodipine oral availability in humans by decreasing intestinal CYP3A protein expression.

The increase in oral availability of felodipine and other commonly used medications when taken with grapefruit juice has been assumed to be due to inhibition of CYP3A4, a cytochrome P450 that is present in liver and intestine. To evaluate the effect of repeated grapefruit juice ingestion on CYP3A4 expression, 10 healthy men were given 8 oz of grapefruit juice three times a day for 6 d. Before and after receiving grapefruit juice, small bowel and colon mucosal biopsies were obtained endoscopically, oral felodipine kinetics were determined, and liver CYP3A4 activity was measured with the [14C N-methyl] erythromycin breath test in each subject.

Selective expression of CYP3A5 and not CYP3A4 in human blood.

There is a marked variation between people in the activity of CYP3A4 in liver and intestine. We reasoned that if CYP3A4 was expressed in peripheral blood cells, a simple blood based test of CYP3A4 phenotype might be feasible. We prepared peripheral blood smears from healthy volunteers and performed immunostaining with a rabbit polyclonal antibody that selectively reacts with enzymes within the CYP3A subfamily.

Bimodal distribution of renal cytochrome P450 3A activity in humans.

It has been proposed that excessive intrarenal conversion of cortisol to 6 beta-hydroxycortisol by CYP3A may mediate increased tubular reabsorption of sodium, leading to a state of mild volume expansion and the clinical phenotype of salt-sensitive hypertension. Therefore, we characterized CYP3A activity in a bank of microsomes from human kidneys using the formation of 1'-hydroxymidazolam (1'-OHM) as a prototypical CYP3A-catalyzed reaction. Maximal rates of metabolite formation occurred at midazolam concentrations of 12.

Ursodeoxycholate in primary biliary cirrhosis any--different from the rest?

Effective therapy for primary biliary cirrhosis is lacking but not for want of appropriate immunosuppressive, antifibrotic, and cupruretic agents. A consensus as to which agent, if any, to use has not been reached. Recent studies suggest that ursodeoxycholate may be both safe and effective.

Quantitative comparisons of acute toxicity of organic chemicals to rat and fish.

Relationships between the acute toxicity of chemicals to fish (LC50) and rat (LD50) were analyzed using a Model II regression analysis after logarithmic transformation. (Model II regression assumes errors in both variables.) Significant correlations were found among bluegill and fathead minnow LC50S and rat LD50 values for the "priority pollutants.
