Dynamic memory tuned by frequency in a homologous thermotropic liquid crystal.

With scaling of dynamic RAM and NAND memory technologies reaching a limit, there is a need for dynamic memory with high density. In this work, an investigation on existence of dynamic memory feature in a frequency tuned homologous series of thermotropic liquid crystals has been carried out. A homologues series of five thermotropic liquid crystalline compounds comprising of 4-butyl benzoic acid and various alkyloxy benzoic acids are prepared, and all these mesogens exhibit only nematic phase.

Polypyrrole/zeolite composite - A nanoadsorbent for reactive dyes removal from synthetic solution.

Synthetic dyes are among the common pollutants in the ecosystem. In the present study, polypyrrole/zeolite (PPy/Ze) nanocomposite was prepared and subsequently assessed for the removal of Reactive blue (RB) and Reactive red (RR) from synthetic solution. The polymeric PPy/Ze composite was synthesized by chemical oxidation of pyrrole in the presence of zeolite.

Significance of conducting polyaniline based composites for the removal of dyes and heavy metals from aqueous solution and wastewaters - A review.

Dyes and heavy metals pollution have become a major environmental concern worldwide. Lacrimal Sac Pneumatocele Following Blunt Nasal Trauma.

Pneumatocele of the lacrimal sac is an uncommon entity and has been rarely reported in literature. The valvular function of the Hasner's valve at the lower end of nasolacrimal duct is presumed to prevent the retrograde reflux of air into the lacrimal sac with increased intranasal pressure as in valsalva maneuver. Loss of this valvular function as noted with persistent positive airway pressure ventilation can cause retrograde air reflux into lacrimal sac.

Biosynthesis of Cr(III) nanoparticles from electroplating wastewater using chromium-resistant Bacillus subtilis and its cytotoxicity and antibacterial activity.

The aim of this study was to synthesize and characterize Cr(III) nanoparticles using wastewater from electroplating industries and chromium-resistant Bacillus subtilis. Formation of Cr(III) nanoparticles was confirmed by UV-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy at 300 nm. The size of the nanoparticles varied from 4 to 50 nm and energy dispersive spectroscopy profile shows strong Cr peak approximately at 4.

Challenges in diagnosing a metabolic disorder: error of pyruvate metabolism or drug induced?

Certain drugs are known to cause metabolic changes resulting in altered metabolic profiles. We report here a case where a combination of antiepileptic drugs resulted in a profile that mimicked a metabolic disorder. A 16month-old female child on antiepileptic drugs (valproate and topiramate) was suspected to have the inherited metabolic disorder, dihydrolipoamide dehydrogenase deficiency, based on clinical symptoms and metabolic profile showing hyperalaninemia, elevated branched-chain amino acids, and lactate-pyruvate ratio.

Prenatal dolichocephaly: sign of trouble? -A variant of Miller-Dieker syndrome.

Neuroimaging and molecular cytogenetics were used to ascertain the cause of disability in a case. The case was diagnosed to be a variant of Miller-Dieker syndrome (MDS). Retrospective analysis showed a prenatal scan reporting dolichocephaly.

Competitive adsorption of Reactive Orange 16 and Reactive Brilliant Blue R on polyaniline/bacterial extracellular polysaccharides composite--a novel eco-friendly polymer.

The performance of polyaniline/extracellular polymeric substances (Pn/EPS) composite as an adsorbent to remove the anionic reactive dyes, Reactive Brilliant Blue R (RBBR) and Reactive Orange 16 (RO), was investigated in single and binary systems. The pH(pzc) of Pn/EPS composite was calculated as 3.7 through potentiometric mass titration method.

Starch/polyaniline nanocomposite for enhanced removal of reactive dyes from synthetic effluent.

Starch/polyaniline nanocomposite was synthesized by chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline and was subsequently analyzed for dye removal from aqueous solution. Batch experiment results showed that nanocomposite removed 99% of Reactive Black 5, 98% of Reactive Violet 4, and decolorized 87% of dye bath effluent. The Toth isotherm model better described single component equilibrium adsorption, whereas the modified Freundlich model showed satisfactory fit for dye bath.

Tufted angioma in a case of neurofibromatosis type I.

Tufted angiomas are rare benign tumours with a characteristic histopathological appearance. Their occurrence in neurofibromatosis type 1, a genodermatosis in which vascular malformations are not uncommon, has hitherto not been reported. Some of the characteristic features of tufted angiomas are discussed.

Primary cutaneous B cell lymphoma.

A 54-year-old man, a road layer by occupation, presented with a 'leonine facies' and multiple tumors that were more commonly present over the exposed parts of the body. On investigation, he turned out to be a case of primary cutaneous B cell lymphoma with a distinctive histopathology. Chemotherapy was given with a good therapeutic response.

Topical lincomycin gel in acne vulgaris: a multicentric placebo controlled study.

Introduction: Acne vulgaris is commonly treated with topical antibacterials. We evaluated lincomycin gel, a new topical formulation for mild to moderate acne.

Material And Methods: A multicentric, randomized, double blind, placebo controlled, clinical trial was conducted with lincomycin hydrochloride in 2% gel form in 200 patients with grade II and grade III acne.

Primary extranodal non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the oral cavity.

Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) belongs to a group of lymphoid neoplasms that is diverse in manner of presentation, response to therapy and prognosis. Usually the oral manifestations of NHL are secondary to a more widespread involvement throughout the body. Though primary intraoral lesions in NHL are uncommon, it is important to be aware of them, since intraoral manifestations are the presenting symptom in these patients.

Interface dermatitis in a patient with AIDS.

Interface dermatitis is a histological reaction pattern which is seen in a number of conditions. One of the recent associations of the histology is in Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. There are differentiating factors between interface dermatitis occurring in AIDS and those occurring in other conditions.

Epidermolysis bullosa pruriginosa.

Epidermolysis bullosa pruriginosa is a recently described variant of epidermolysis bullosa dystrophica. It is characterised by pruritic nodular prurigo like lesions, milia and with a histopathology of a subepidermal blister. We report 3 cases of this new variant.

Evaluation of clinical efficacy and safety of once daily topical administration of 1% oxiconazole cream and lotion in dermatophytosis : an open label, non comparative multicentre study.

The clinical efficacy and safety of once daily topical administration of 1% oxiconazole cream and lotion was assessed in an open label, non comparative trial in tinea cruris, tinea corporis and tinea pedis patients. In treated patients, severity scores of erythema, pruritus, scaling, vesicles, papules and burning showed a progressive fall over a period of 4 weeks at all the study centres. With lotion, mean percentage improvement of symptoms varied from 35% (week 1) to 87.

Case report. Eumycetoma due to Curvularia lunata.

Eumycetoma caused by Curvularia lunata affecting the right foot is described in a 27-year-old farmer with the mycological and mycopathological features. The patient was being treated with oral ketoconazole 200 mg daily for 2 months and followed.

Post febrile acquired cutis laxa.

Acquired cutis laxa following enteric fever has been described in a male in the neck region. Biopsy revealed fragmented elastic fibres in the dermis which were better visualised with special stain for elastic tissue. This case is reported for rarity of its occurrence at the localised site following febrile illness.

Monomorphic cutaneous metastases with different primaries.

Telangiectatic type of secondary cutaneous metastases is described with primary malignancies in different organs in a female and in a male. The clinical and histopathological features of the secondary metastases are described along with the features of the primaries manifesting as adenocarcinoma of breast in the former and squamous cell carcinoma in the larynx in the latter.
