Background And Objective: The choroid, a dense vascular structure in the posterior segment of the eye, maintains the health of the retina by supplying oxygen and nutrients, and assumes clinical significance in screening ocular diseases including age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR). Polymer coatings having high amounts of renewable carbon and self-healing properties are highly sought after in a sustainability perspective. We report here the development of bio-/CO-derived nonisocyanate polyurethane (NIPU) coatings which are recyclable and healable via three different types of healing mechanisms. These NIPUs contain furan rings in their main chain which after cross-linking with bismaleimides form organogels having a thermo-reversible sol-gel transition and solvent-borne coatings with improved properties.

Developing well-defined surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS)-active substrates with superior performance is potentially attractive for many areas of research such as new generation sensing and analysis. Here, a nanohybrid SERS platform has been developed by decorating two-dimensional (2D) tungsten diselenide (WSe) flakes with zero-dimensional (0D) plasmonic gold nanoparticles (Au NPs). Assembling nanobodies (Nbs) into polyvalent multimers is a powerful strategy for improving the effectiveness of Nb-based therapeutics and biotechnological tools. However, generally effective approaches to Nb assembly are currently restricted to the amino or carboxyl termini, greatly limiting the diversity of Nb multimer topologies that can be produced. Here, we show that reactive tetrazine groups-site-specifically inserted by genetic code expansion at Nb surface sites-are compatible with Nb folding and function, enabling Nb assembly at any desired point.

Capacitive deionization (CDI) is an emerging desalination technology, particularly useful for removing ionic and polarizable species from water. In this context, the desalination performance of fluoride and other toxic species (lead and arsenic) present in brackish water at an industrial scale of a few kilo liters using a CDI prototype built by InnoDI Private Limited is demonstrated. The prototype is highly efficient in removing ionic contaminants from water, including toxic and heavy metal ions.

Polymerization of deoxygenated sickle hemoglobin (HbS) leads to erythrocyte sickling. Enhancing activity of the erythrocyte glycolytic pathway has anti-sickling potential as this reduces 2,3-diphosphoglycerate (2,3-DPG) and increases ATP, factors that decrease HbS polymerization and improve erythrocyte membrane integrity. These factors can be modulated by mitapivat, which activates erythrocyte pyruvate kinase (PKR) and improves sickling kinetics in SCD patients.

Here, we report an exceptional feature of the one-dimensional threadlike assemblies of a four-monolayer colloidal CdSe nanoplatelet (NPL)-based thin-film transistor. A series of different lengths of threads (200-1200 nm) was used as an active n channel in thin-film transistors (TFTs) to understand the change in mobility with the length of the threads. The film with the longest threads shows the highest conductivity of ∼12 S/cm and electron mobility of ∼14.

Inherent insulating nature of oxides makes it challenging for use in thermoelectric applications that warrant reasonable electrical conductivity. In the present work, we have used graphite (G) to improve the electron transport in LaSrTiNbO (LSTN) by making composites. Graphite acts as the electron momentum booster in the LSTN matrix, which otherwise suffers from Anderson localization of electrons, causing an order of magnitude increase in weighted mobility and electrical conductivity.

Background: Previous WHO guidance on tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-based oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) suggests measuring creatinine levels at PrEP initiation and regularly afterwards, which might represent barriers to PrEP implementation and uptake. We aimed to systematically review published literature on kidney toxicity among tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-based oral PrEP users and conducted an individual participant data meta-analysis (IPDMA) on kidney function among PrEP users in a global implementation project dataset.

Methods: In this systematic review and meta-analysis we searched PubMed up to June 30, 2021, for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) or cohort studies that reported on graded kidney-related adverse events among oral PrEP users (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-based PrEP alone or in combination with emtricitabine or lamivudine).

8-Furylimidazolo-2'-deoxycytidine (ImidC), CHNO, is a fluorescent analogue of 2'-deoxycytidine, also displaying the same recognition face. Herein we describe results on the pairing properties of synthetic DNA and RNA oligonucleotides that contain nucleotide analogues with a 7-membered sugar ring (oxepane nucleotides). Specifically, we describe the stereoselective synthesis of a set of three oxepane thymine nucleosides (OxT), their conversion to phosphoramidite derivatives, and their use in solid-phase synthesis to yield chimeric OxT-DNA and OxT-RNA strands. The different regioisomeric OxT phosphoramidites allowed for positional variations of the phosphate bridge and assessment of duplex stability when the oxepane nucleotides were incorporated in dsDNA, dsRNA, and DNA-RNA hybrids.

A facile synthesis of mono-, 1,1- and 1,2-disubstituted cyclopropanes via visible light-mediated photoredox/nickel dual catalysis is demonstrated. The challenging intramolecular C(sp)-C(sp) cross-electrophile coupling of readily available unactivated 1,3-dialkyl electrophiles was performed under mild conditions that allowed traditionally reactive functional groups to be included. Mechanistic inspection and control experiments revealed the importance of dual catalysis and that the reaction proceeds via a stepwise oxidative addition followed by an intramolecular S2 reaction.
