Agricultural lands with farm animals (e.g. cattle) can be significantly affected by radioactive contamination following nuclear or radiation accidents.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAggregated transfer factors (T) were identified for three common vegetables grown in six common European soils freshly contaminated by Cs and Sr. The experiment was carried out as a mesocosm experiment in pots with an average soil weight of 15.8 kg per pot.

Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a widely used technology that allows for the reprocessing and reduction of waste biomass. A study was conducted to see if the AD technology might be used to process radioactively polluted agricultural biomass. For this purpose, laboratory tests were carried out with a 20-liter model biogas plant (BGP) with the radionuclide Cs and operational tests with the South Bohemian commercial biogas plant monitoring the radionuclide Cs.

Samples of the above-ground biomass of crops and soil were taken in 2020 in the vicinity of the Temelín and Dukovany nuclear power plants (Czech Republic). The 137Cs activities were determined using gamma spectrometry, and the 90Sr activities were measured through beta radiation.

The article deals with evaluation of irradiation of an operator of a 1 MW biogas station (BGS), processing silage plant biomass contaminated by 137Cs and 134Cs. External irradiation and internal irradiation by the means of aerosol particles inhalation were considered. For calculation of the external irradiation, a BGS model was created in the MCNP.

The activity concentration of Cs in samples of coniferous forest humus collected across the territory of the Czech Republic in 1995 and 2005 was analysed, and it was found significantly correlated with the surface deposition caused by the Chernobyl accident. The effective (12.8 y) and environmental (22.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIngestion intakes of Cs of the Czech population were calculated in two different ways - either from the measured activity of Cs in components of food in combination with statistical data about consumption rates or from retention of Cs in the human body obtained by whole body counting or calculated from daily urinary excretion of Cs. Data from the time period since 1986 to 2015 are used. The daily ingestion intake was about 25 Bq d in 1986 and is around 0.

Geometric means and other statistical characteristics were estimated from the data sets on the assumption of log-normal distribution of the data from the time interval 2004-2012 where the character of data distribution had displayed no significant change. Geometric means (in Bq/kg) in meat were: wild boar 5.
