To date, no study has been conducted to investigate the diversity in honeybee populations of in the Czech Republic. Between 2022 and 2023, worker bees were collected from colonies distributed throughout the Czech Republic in 77 districts, and their genetic differences were examined using 22 microsatellite loci. The samples were obtained from hives ( = 3647) and through the process of capture on flowers ( = 553).

Using measurements at the Pierre Auger Observatory we show full compatibility between our radio and the previously published fluorescence dataset, and between a subset of air showers observed simultaneously with both radio and fluorescence techniques, a measurement setup unique to the Pierre Auger Observatory. Furthermore, we show radio X_{max} resolution as a function of energy and demonstrate the ability to make competitive high-resolution X_{max} measurements with even a sparse radio array.

All the glycosylamines prepared have been fully characterized, and their anomeric configuration has been determined. The article presents a novel method for the N-acylation of diglycosylamines and other electron-poor glycosylamines, which employs nitromethane as a solvent in carboxylic anhydride acylation under acidic conditions.

The conjugation of antibodies to liposomes is usually achieved by covalent coupling using cross-linkers in a reaction that might adversely affect the characteristics of the final product. Here we present an alternative strategy for liposome functionalization: we created a recombinant Fab antibody fragment genetically fused on its C-terminus to the hydrophobic peptide derived from pulmonary surfactant protein D, which became inserted into the liposomal bilayer during liposomal preparation and anchored the Fab onto the liposome surface.

Energy-dependent patterns in the arrival directions of cosmic rays are searched for using data of the Pierre Auger Observatory. We investigate local regions around the highest-energy cosmic rays with [Formula: see text] eV by analyzing cosmic rays with energies above [Formula: see text] eV arriving within an angular separation of approximately 15[Formula: see text]. We characterize the energy distributions inside these regions by two independent methods, one searching for angular dependence of energy-energy correlations and one searching for collimation of energy along the local system of principal axes of the energy distribution.

We have studied the relevance of this interaction for T cell activation in vitro and in vivo by targeting the interaction sites in both partners.

Transmissive spongiform encephalopathies (TSE) are neurodegenerative diseases characterized by depositions of abnormally folded prion protein (PrP(TSE)) in brain. PrP(TSE) is at present the only specific biochemical marker of human and animal TSE. As deposits of PrP(TSE) remain in the body for long periods, there is substantial chance of them being nonenzymatically modified by glycation.

Suitable tools for these analyses are applications of mathematical and physical models and simulation of this attack under 'realistic' conditions. The work presented here summarises the results of four tests, in which a RaS (a Tc-99 m solution) was dispersed over a free area with the use of an industrial explosive.

During the phase of practical verification of the method, the dosimeter was tested, among others, in mixed neutron-photon fields in the area of interim storages for spent nuclear fuel of the Czech nuclear power plant Dukovany. The testing was made with the intention to get information about accuracy of H(p)(10) determination for cases when no site-specific calibration is available or neutron spectra are not known.

Since phosphorylation of individual tyrosines can be correlated with the quality of the T cell response, monitoring their phosphorylation is important. We thus generated novel antibodies against phospho-tyrosines of the TCR-CD3 complex and tested the specificity in a synthetic biology approach.

The principle of the new biosensor is based on the enzyme-catalyzed hydrolysis of the nerve agents and amperometric detection of the thiol-containing hydrolysis products at carbon nanotube-modified screen-printed electrodes. Demeton-S was used as a nerve agent mimic.

An overview on the long-term information exchange and co-operation between Austria and the Czech Republic in the field of radiation emergency preparedness and evaluation of radiological consequences of NPP accidents is provided. Initiated by the 'Melk Protocol' between the Czech and Austrian governments in December 2000 and its follow-up activities, the information exchange and co-operation between the Czech Republic and Austria in the field of radiation-emergency preparedness have been extended. Among others, a Working Group to compare radiological consequences of Beyond Design Basis Accident with a detailed inter-comparison program concerning atmospheric dispersion models, dose assessment methods and counter- measures was established.

Using the split-dose technic the first sublethal neutron dose in the range 1-2 Gy was followed by second lethal exposures in the two time intervals (3 or 6 days) using whole body fission neutrons irradiations (3 days interval) or whole body gamma-irradiations (6 days interval) for LD50/30 evaluation within next 30 days survival observation. In other experiments the mean survival time (MST) in days was estimated in different rats group, when animals were whole body fission neutrons irradiated twice with 3-days interval using the total lethal doses of 4 or 5 Gy.

Background: The information on the results of the survey of collective effective dose SE to children in the Czech Republic (CR) due to nuclear medicine examinations performed during the one-year period July 1995-June 1996.
Methods: The estimate of SE was based on the annual frequency of nuclear medicine procedures and the type and amount of administered radiopharmaceuticals provided by the General Health Insurance Company covering 75% of the CR population.
Results: In the period considered, 15,281 examinations of children younger than 18 years were performed, which represented 7.

Biphenyl-utilizing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB)-degrading bacteria were isolated from sites highly contaminated by PCBs, and their degradation abilities were determined using GC for typical commercial PCB mixtures (Delor 103 and Delor 106). Out of twelve strains which utilized biphenyl as a sole source of carbon and energy, strains Pseudomonas alcaligenes KP2 and P. fluorescens KP12, characterized by the BIOLOG identification system and the NEFERM test, were shown to significantly co-metabolize the PCB mixture Delor 103.

New legislation concerning radiation protection, which was effective in the Czech Republic from 1997, followed from the recommendations of ICRP Publication 60 and the IAEA BSS, and included all new basic principles for the protection of radiation workers given in these documents. The requirements for the personal monitoring of category A workers and the recognition of the capacity of dosimetry services were identified as being very significant for radiation practice, and will be licensed by the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SONS). The license application will include the methodology of effective dose evaluation, the description of QA and QC of the service, the system of customer communication and dose recording and reporting.

Gram-negative bacteria with morphological and biochemical characteristics corresponding to the bacterial species Edwardsiella tarda were isolated from the kidneys, liver and from the dermal lesion.
