Evaluation of Optic Disc Drusen Using Modern Imaging Paraclinical Methods.

Purpose:  To analyze patients with optic disc drusen (ODD), with emphasis on modern diagnostics.

Materials And Methods:  Research of the literature was conducted, together with a retrospective statistical analysis of patients with ODD. The group included individuals with ODD diagnosed using at least one of the following (ultrasound - USG, optical coherence tomography - OCT, fundus autofluorescence - FAF).

Retinal Vein Occlusion Guidelines.

Retinal vein occlusion and its complications are among the most common causes of severe loss of sight in developed countries. In recent years, developments in imaging methods have been introduced, leading to an improvement in diagnostic possibilities. At the same time new treatment options have become available (new intravitreal drugs and treatment protocols, laser and surgical methods).

Serum autoantibodies against hexokinase 1 manifest secondary to diabetic macular edema onset.

Aims: Autoantibodies against hexokinase 1 (HK1) were recently proposed to be associated with diabetic macular edema (DME). We hypothesized that anti-HK1 autoantibodies can be used as DME markers and to predict DME onset.

Materials And Methods: Serum from patients with 1) DME, 2) diabetes mellitus (DM), 3) allergies or autoimmunities, and 4) control subjects was tested for anti-HK1 and anti-hexokinase 2 (HK2) autoantibodies by immunoblotting.

Intraday repeatability of macular layers measurements in glaucomatous and non-glaucomatous patients using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography.

Purpose: To assess the intraday repeatability of macular architecture measurements in glaucomatous and non-glaucomatous patients using spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) and to evaluate the independence from intraindividual intraocular pressure (IOP) fluctuations.

Methods: In this single-center, time-point comparison study, 88 eyes with glaucoma, 53 eyes with ocular hypertension (OHT), and 253 healthy eyes underwent two standardized SD-OCT and intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements on the same day with a 5-h time gap. Bland-Altman plots, intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC), and random-effects model were used to analyze repeatability of entire retinal thickness, retinal nerve fiber layer, ganglion cell layer, inner plexiform layer, and inner nuclear layer measurements.

Kaposi's Sarcoma. A Case Report.

Aim: The aim of this case report is to present the case of a patient with iatrogenic Kaposi's sarcoma afflicting several organs, ocular manifestation.

Case Report: In a 74-year-old kidney transplant patient receiving immunosuppressive therapy, iatrogenic Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) developed in both lower eyelids. Subsequently, KS was confirmed in the region of the left forearm, with suspicion of lesions in the lungs.

Clinical Signs for Differential Diagnosis of Eyelid Tumours.

This article aims to present the differential diagnostics of benign and malignant eyelid tumours. The most common malignant eyelid tumour is basal cell carcinoma, followed by squamous cell carcinoma. The common signs of malignity are loss of lashes, ulceration, and infiltration of the lesion.

Endoscopic two-port technique for orbital tumours: combined transnasal and sublabial approach.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to present the indications for a combined endoscopic transnasal and sublabial transantral approach for the surgical treatment of orbital lesions.

Material And Methods: This case study enrolled 10 patients scheduled for endoscopic transnasal surgery for treating orbital lesions from 2009 to 2020. When the tumour was localised to the medial part of the orbit, patients underwent endoscopy with a transnasal mononostril approach.

Incidence of adverse events after loading phase of the brolucizumab therapy of neovascular AMD: Real-life evidence in the Czech Republic.

Aim: To evaluate the incidence of ocular adverse events after loading phase of the brolucizumab therapy in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) in real-life clinical practice - in treatment-naive patients and in patients after switching from another anti-VEGF agent. Another aim was to evaluate treatment outcomes in patients with adverse events.

Methods: This is a multicentre, retrospective, observational study from 16 application centres in the Czech Republic.

Simultaneous Presbyopia and Astigmatism Correction with a Novel Trifocal Toric Intraocular Lens-A One-Year Follow-Up.

The current investigation evaluates the efficiency of the trifocal toric Liberty 677MTY intraocular lens (IOL) in correcting preoperative corneal astigmatism in cataract patients demanding spectacle independence. The retrospective evaluation included 28 eyes of 15 patients with preoperative corneal astigmatism of at least 1.0 Dioptre (D).

Cheek-midface lifting with lateral canthoplasy for the repair of complex iatrogenic lower eyelid ectropion.

Purpose: To assess the efficiency and safety of cheek-midface lifting for the ophthalmoplastic reconstructive surgical repair of cicatricial lower eyelid malpositions after previously failed surgery.

Methods: In two ophthalmoplastic clinics, 14 eyelids of 13 patients underwent transconjunctival cheek-midface lifting. In a retrospective audit, changes in margin-reflex distance 2 (MRD2), snap-back test, the position of the eyelid after surgery including improving of the presurgical scleral show, the overall patient's satisfaction as well as complications after surgery were recorded.

Two-year results of a combined regimen of aflibercept treatment in three types of choroidal neovascular membrane in the wet form of age-related macular degeneration: Real-life evidence in the Czech Republic.

Aim: To present the results of a 2-year therapy with aflibercept in real-life practice in a mixed regimen in patients with a neovascular form of age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and to evaluate the treatment response of various types of choroidal neovascular membranes (CNV) - occult (Type 1), classic (Type 2) and minimally classic (Type 4).

Methods: This was a multicentric, prospective, observational study of a series of cases. Patients diagnosed with the wet form of AMD were treated in a fixed regimen (3 injections at intervals of 1 month and then injections at 8-week intervals) in the first year, and in a regimen (PRN) in the second year.

Results of Ranibizumab Treatment of the Myopic Choroidal Neovascular Membrane according to the Axial Length of the Eye.

Aim: A retrospective evaluation of the results of treatment of myopic choroidal neovascularization (mCNV) with intravitreal injections of ranibizumab in a (PRN) regimen in three groups of patients distributed according to axial length.

Methods: The paper presents a retrospective multicenter study carried out with the cooperation of several Departments of Ophthalmology in the Czech Republic. The study included 60 eyes of 60 patients suffering from mCNV, divided according to axial length into three groups.

[Retrobulbar Haematoma - a Complication that May Impair Vision].

Retrobulbar haematoma (RBH) is a rare complication that may affect vision after a trauma or a surgical procedure. The diagnosis must be made promptly, as only early surgical intervention can adequately prevent irreversible visual impairment. Because of the bony orbital walls, there is hardly any room for the increasing intraorbital volume due to the retrobulbar haemorrhage.

Response to Aflibercept Therapy in Three Types of Choroidal Neovascular Membrane in Neovascular Age-Related Macular Degeneration: Real-Life Evidence in the Czech Republic.

Purpose: To present a cohort of treatment-naive patients with the neovascular form of age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) treated with aflibercept in a fixed regimen and evaluate the treatment response of three types of choroidal neovascular membrane (CNV)-occult (Type 1), classic (Type 2), and minimally classic (Type 4).

Methods: This was a multicentre, prospective, observational consecutive case series study. Patients diagnosed with three types of CNV of nAMD were treated in a fixed regimen (3 injections every 4 weeks, and then injections at 8 week intervals).

Single session of pattern scanning laser versus multiple sessions of conventional laser for panretinal photocoagulation in diabetic retinopathy: Efficacy, safety and painfulness.

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical efficiency, safety and painfulness of retinal laser photocoagulation employing a pattern scanning laser system Pascal given in a single-session versus conventional laser multiple-session treatment of the same patient with diabetic retinopathy during 12-month follow-up.

Methods: The cohort included 60 eyes in 30 patients treated at the Ophthalmology Clinic, Faculty Hospital Ostrava, from 2008 to 2013. Panretinal laser coagulation was performed on one eye using the multispot panretinal photocoagulation given in a single-session system Pascal (OptiMedica, Santa Clara, California).

Changes in the anterior segment of the eye following uncomplicated pars plana vitrectomy. A review.

Pars plana vitrectomy is currently the most common technique used in retinal surgery. Although primarily involving the posterior segment of the eye it also affects the anterior segment. As this is a less published topic, the aim of this paper was to review the literature on changes in the anterior segment after uncomplicated pars plana vitrectomy using data based literature search.

A new modified technique for the treatment of high-risk prethreshold ROP under the direct visual control of RetCam 3.

Purpose: To describe a new modified technique in the treatment of ROP (retinopathy of prematurity) using the RetCam 3 digital imaging system - Camera-Assisted Laser photocoagulation and Cryotherapy of the Retina (CALCR).

Methods: From Nov 2011 to Oct 2013, 113 infants were diagnosed with ROP. The average post-conceptual age (PCA) at the time of diagnosis was the 35(th) week of PCA; the average birth weight was 1,041 g.
