User redesign, testing and evaluation of the Monitoring Risk and Improving System Safety (MoRISS) checklist for the general practice work environment.

Background: Inadequate checking of safety-critical issues can compromise care quality in general practice (GP) work settings. Adopting a systemic, methodical approach may lead to improved standardisation of processes and reliability of task performance, strengthening the safety systems concerned. This study aimed to revise, modify and test the content and relevance of a previously validated safety checklist to the current GP context.

Worry and bother: factors in rural women's health decision making.

This exploratory study examined older rural women's health decision making. Thirty-three rural women were recruited to participate in semistructured qualitative interviews. Major themes emerged that focused on rural women's comments regarding their concerns about not worrying or bothering their children with personal health matters.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and hopelessness: psychosocial factors.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of psychosocial factors to the presence of hopelessness among patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Secondary cross-sectional analyses were conducted with data collected from 136 ALS patients. Primary research questions were examined using hierarchical multiple regression procedures.

Depression and associated characteristics among community-based elderly people.

Depression is a major health problem, particularly among the elderly. It is important that allied health professionals, especially those working with the elderly, understand this often serious condition. The data for this article were collected as part of an interdisciplinary geriatric health care team project, which included allied health professionals working in rural and urban clinics.
