Railway switches and crossings (S&C) are among the most important high-value components in a railway network and a failure of such an asset could result in severe network disturbance. Therefore, potential defects need to be detected at an early stage to prevent traffic-disturbing downtime or even severe accidents. The switch and crossing (S&C) is one of the most important parts of the railway infrastructure network due to its significant influence on traffic delays and maintenance costs. Two central questions were investigated in this paper: (I) the first question is related to the feasibility of exploring the vibration data for wear size estimation of railway S&C and (II) the second one is how to take advantage of the Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based framework to design an effective early-warning system at early stage of S&C wear development. Background: Humeral stress fractures are rare injuries usually related to sports practice and joint overload without a direct trauma. A proximal humeral stress fracture has never been reported in a CrossFit athlete.

Objectives: To explore if β-adrenergic receptors in the brain are involved in acute and delayed cardiovascular responses to a brief emotional stress, by comparing the effects of the β1-blockers metoprolol (lipophilic) and atenolol (hydrophilic).

Design: Male dominant pigs, singleliving, freely moving, with telemetric recordings of intra-arterial pressure and ECG and assay of plasma levels of the adrenergic cotransmitter neuropeptide Y (NPY), were confronted with four alien pigs for three minutes at weekly intervals. Weeks 1 and 4 were controls, in weeks 2 and 3 randomized crossover treatment with metoprolol or atenolol were given.

Cleaning is a highly physically demanding job with a high frequency of awkward postures and working environments as contributing risk factors. Participatory ergonomics is a method in which end-users take an active role in identifying risk factors and solutions. The aim of this study was to apply the participatory ergonomics method to identify cleaning problems and to evaluate the effect of a low-cost improvement on cleaners' working postures in an office environment.

Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is co-released with noradrenaline from sympathetic nerves, has a strong vasoconstrictive action, and causes an attenuation of parasympathetic action in animal experiments. The plasma level of NPY is greatly elevated in patients with congestive heart failure, but the clinical relevance of this finding is unclear. Central haemodynamic effects, cardiac conduction system electrophysiology and coronary sinus blood flow were therefore studied in two sets of experiments, each carried out on seven healthy men.

The present study assessed the effect of a single subcutaneous injection of resiniferatoxin (RTX), an ultrapotent capsaicin analogue, on the activity of spinal cholecystokinin (CCK) systems, by using electrophysiological and in situ hybridization techniques. Subcutaneous RTX at 0.3 mg/kg, but not vehicle, produced marked thermal hypoalgesia in rats on the hot plate and tail flick tests.
