Probiotics have been used in human and veterinary medicine to increase resistance to pathogens and provide protection against external impacts for many years. Pathogens are often transmitted to humans through animal product consumption. Therefore, it is assumed that probiotics protecting animals may also protect the humans who consume them.

The direct tailoring of the size, composition, or number of layers belongs to the advantages of 3D printing employment in producing orodispersible films (ODFs) compared to the frequently utilized solvent casting method. This study aimed to produce porous ODFs as a substrate for medicated ink deposited by a 2D printer. The innovative semi-solid extrusion 3D printing method was employed to produce multilayered ODFs, where the bottom layer assures the mechanical properties.

Orodispersible films are an innovative dosage form. Their main advantages are the application comfort and the possibility of personalization. This work aimed to evaluate the influence of different drying times on the properties of orodispersible films of various thicknesses, prepared in two different semisolid extrusion 3D printing setups.

The utilization of co-processed excipients (CPEs) represents a novel approach to the preparation of orally disintegrating tablets by direct compression. Flow, consolidation, and compression properties of four lactose-based CPEs-Cellactose 80, CombiLac, MicroceLac 100, and StarLac-were investigated using different methods, including granulometry, powder rheometry, and tablet compaction under three pressures. Due to the similar composition and the same preparation technique (spray drying), the properties of CPEs and their compacts were generally comparable.

The vaginal rings research is almost exclusively focused on rings for human medicine, although the dosage form offers improvement of therapeutic effect in other mammals as well. This contribution studied an effect of varying dimension parameters (diameter 20, 30 or 40 mm; height 3, 4 or 5 mm; width of annulus 5, 7.5 or 10 mm) on mechanical properties and dissolution behaviour of silicone vaginal rings with constant drug amount, intended for use in dogs.

The aim of this study was to prepare benzydamine hydrochloride loaded orodispersible films using modified semisolid extrusion 3D printing method. An innovative approach was developed where thin layer of drug loaded dispersion is printed and dried before printing of subsequent layers. Layer-by-layer drying as the in process step improves mechanical properties of films, uniformity of drug content and allows faster preparation of films in compounding settings due to shortening of drying time.

Objectives: The abuse of benzodiazepines and Z-drugs reduces the quality of life of millions of addicted people worldwide. They cannot be discontinued abruptly due to harmful withdrawal symptoms. Detoxification is usually based on replacement of short/middle acting benzodiazepines or Z-drugs by diazepam and tapering the dose over time.

In veterinary medicine, vaginal rings (VRs) are rarely used. However, there are diseases of female dogs' reproductive system which represent a suitable possibility for their usage. An example of such a disease is canine pyometra which can be treated by lipophilic prostaglandin drugs, unfortunately with harmful side effects after systemic administration.

As coprocessed excipients (CPE) gain a lot of focus recently, this article compares three commercially available CPE of Avicel brand, namely, CE 15, DG, and HFE 102. Comparison is based on measured physical properties of coprocessed mixtures, respectively, flow properties, pycnometric density, mean particle size, specific surface area, moisture content, hygroscopicity, solubility, pH leaching, electrostatic charge, SEM images, and DSC. Tablets were made employing three pressure sets.
