Composite Hydrogels with Engineered Microdomains for Optical Glucose Sensing at Low Oxygen Conditions.

There is a growing need for advanced tools that enable frequent monitoring of biomarkers for precision medicine. In this work, we present a composite hydrogel-based system providing real-time optical bioanalyte monitoring. The responsive material, alginate-in-alginate (AnA), is comprised of an alginate hydrogel with embedded bioactive, nanofilm-coated phosphorescent microdomains; palladium tetracarboxyphenylporphyrin serves as an optical indicator, glucose oxidase as a model enzyme, and layer-by-layer deposited polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEMs) as the diffusion barrier.

[Solitary osseous metastasis in a patient with germ cell tumor--successful chemotherapy].

A 25-year-old patient with testicular teratoma (pathological stage I) relapsed with a solitary, symptomatic metastasis in the right humerus 8 months after unilateral orchiectomy and lymphadenectomy. Treatment consisted in three cycles of standard chemotherapy with etoposide, bleomycin and cisplatin (the last replaced by carboplatin in courses 2 and 3). No supplementary treatment proved necessary to achieve complete remission and complete physical rehabilitation.

Further characterization of the mucin antigen associated with malignant transformation of human colonic mucosa, detectable with the monoclonal antibody AM-3.

The recently obtained monoclonal antibody AM-3 reacts with an antigenic determinant present in several normal and neoplastic human tissues. In the large intestine the expression of the antigen is very low, but it increases dramatically after malignant transformation. In colonic adenomas the antigen expression correlates with the grade of dysplasia.
