Background: The dorsal premotor cortex (PMd) is a key region in bimanual coordination. However, causal evidence linking PMd functionality during motor planning and execution to movement quality is lacking.

Objective: We investigated how left (PMd) and right PMd (PMd) are causally involved in planning and executing bimanual movements, using short-train repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS).

Background: Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), a neuromodulatory non-invasive brain stimulation technique, has shown promising results in basic and clinical studies. The known interindividual variability of the effects, however, limits the efficacy of the technique. Recently we reported neurophysiological effects of tDCS applied over the primary motor cortex at the group level, based on data from twenty-nine participants who received 15min of either sham, 0.

Emerging evidence has underscored the potential usefulness of red blood cell distribution width (RDW) measurement in predicting the mortality and disease severity of COVID-19. This study aimed to assess the association of the plasma RDW levels with adverse prognosis in COVID-19 patients. A comprehensive literature search from inception to September 2020 was performed to harvest original studies reporting RDW on admission and clinical outcomes among patients hospitalized with COVID-19.

The global severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic leading to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is straining hospitals. Judicious resource allocation is paramount but difficult due to the unpredictable disease course. Once hospitalized, discerning which patients may progress to critical disease would be valuable for resource planning.

Natural compounds found in Lignosus rhinocerus like polysaccharides and polysaccharide-protein complexes have the capabilities to modulate the immune system. It possesses antitumor and anti-inflammatory properties and is commonly used in Southeast Asia and Southern China to alleviate illness. To investigate its immunomodulating properties, composition of polysaccharides and the expression of cytokines/chemokines from L.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an ongoing pandemic that has affected millions of individuals worldwide. Prior studies suggest that COVID-19 may be associated with an increased risk for various cardiovascular disorders, such as myocardial injury, arrhythmia, acute coronary syndrome, and venous thromboembolism. Early reports of non-COVID-19 patients have described the concurrence of takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TTC) and spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD).

While the world has experience with many different types of infectious diseases, the current crisis related to the spread of COVID-19 has challenged epidemiologists and public health experts alike, leading to a rapid search for, and development of, new and innovative solutions to combat its spread. The transmission of this virus has infected more than 18.92 million people as of August 6, 2020, with over half a million deaths across the globe; the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared this a global pandemic.

Five different subunits of the human serotonin 3 (5-hydroxytrptamine 3; 5-HT) receptor exist and these are present in both central and peripheral systems. Different subunits alter the efficacy of 5-HT receptor antagonists used to treat diarrhoea predominant-irritable bowel syndrome, chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting and depression. Cell surface arrangement of 5-HT receptor complexes and the contribution of C, D and E subunits to receptor function is poorly understood.

Background And Objectives: Current guidelines recommend reducing intake of diets rich in saturated fats and replacing it with diets rich in unsaturated fats. Palm oil contains a high amount of saturated fatty acids, but its effect on serum lipid levels is unclear. The study aimed to compare the effects of palm oil consumption with other edible oils rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) on serum lipid profiles.

Introduction: Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare and aggressive malignancy of the skin, with poor clinical outcomes. Typical conditions include a rapidly growing, solitary dome-shaped, violaceous nodule. Several root causes have been identified - sun exposure, age, lighter skin, immunocompromised state, and polyomavirus infection.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists wanted to see if helping moms with depression could also help their kids grow up better, so they tested a special program in villages in Pakistan.
  • They included 570 moms who had depression and 584 who didn't, to see how much the program could help.
  • After 36 months, they looked at how the moms and kids were doing, especially in terms of the moms' mental health and the kids' social skills.

Background: Preliminary evidence indicates that prophylactic-dose thromboprophylaxis may be inadequate to control the increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients hospitalized for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. Additionally, it remains unclear whether the D-dimer measurement is useful for VTE risk stratification among COVID-19 patients. This study aimed to offer benchmark data on the incidence of VTE and to examine the difference in D-dimer levels among anticoagulated COVID-19 patients with and without VTE incident.

Hypothermia is not known as a common cause of acute pancreatitis, although there have been previously reported cases. Herein, we describe a 55-year-old man who presented with acute pancreatitis preceded by hypothermia in the absence of the more traditional causative factors, such as gallstones or alcohol consumption. On arrival to the emergency department, he was found to have a temperature of 84.

Background: Betrixaban and rivaroxaban are the direct anticoagulants approved in the United States for extended venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis among acutely ill medical patients. The efficacy and safety in specific subgroups remain unclear.

Methods: A meta-analysis of 3 randomized trials involving extended thromboprophylaxis with betrixaban or rivaroxaban versus enoxaparin for medically ill patients was performed to compare VTE (composite of asymptomatic proximal and symptomatic deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, or VTE-related death) and major bleeding in subgroups by baseline D-dimer, age, sex, and major medical illness on hospitalization.
