Novel use of local analgesia prior to intramuscular magnesium sulphate injection compared to mixed local analgesia with magnesium sulphate to reduce pain: a randomised crossover study in patients being managed for eclampsia and preeclampsia.

Objective: The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended addition of local anesthetic to reduce the intense pain of intramuscular injection of 50% Magnesium Sulphate (MgSO) salt solution has been found to be ineffective. We tested whether giving the local anesthetic 5 min before the MgSO injection would reduce pain.

Methods: We conducted a prospective cross-over trial where each participant with pre-eclampsia or eclampsia received sequential and mixed injection methods in random sequence during sequential MgSO administrations.

Timelines to Cervical Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment at a Tertiary Hospital in Botswana.

Purpose: To describe the timelines leading to presentation, diagnosis and definitive treatment among cervical cancer patients at a tertiary treatment center in Botswana.

Patients And Methods: This was a retrospective study that evaluated timelines to diagnosis and linkage to definitive treatment among cervical cancer patients in Botswana. Medical records of 149 patients admitted at Princess Marina Hospital (PMH) from 2012 to 2014 were reviewed from August 2016 to February 2017.

Predictors of Locally Advanced Disease at Presentation and Clinical Outcomes Among Cervical Cancer Patients Admitted at a Tertiary Hospital in Botswana.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine predictors of locally advanced disease at presentation and clinical outcomes among cervical cancer patients in Botswana to inform interventional strategies.

Methods: Retrospective review of 149 medical records of new cervical cancer patients was conducted between August 2016 and February 2017 at the Princess Marina Hospital. Data collected included sociodemographics, presenting symptoms, stage of disease, comorbidities, interventions, and clinical outcomes.
