Background: Unobtrusive observation is a promising method for assessing physical activity and other well-being behaviors (eg, social interactions) in urban environments, without participant burden and biases associated with self-report. However, current methods require multiple in-person observers. Using video cameras instead could allow for more accurate observations at lower cost and with greater flexibility in scheduling.

A retrospective case series on bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of the jaw in 20 cats.

Introduction: This retrospective study highlights the salient aspects of a series of feline patients affected with bisphosphonate related osteonecrosis of the jaw. Though more commonly published in human literature, this presentation is rare in cats. The authors hope that this study will assist in making this a more globally known entity with subsequent improved prognosis.

Subclavian-Carotid Bypass as a Solution to Recurrent Carotid Artery Stenosis Post Endarterectomy and Transfemoral Stenting.

We present the case of an 80-year-old man who underwent a subclavian-to-distal internal carotid artery bypass with a reversed saphenous vein due to symptomatic in-stent restenosis, following a carotid endarterectomy 20 years ago and carotid artery stenting 10 years ago. The patient presented with right-sided hemiparesis and dysarthria. Imaging suggested in-stent restenosis of the internal carotid artery stent.

Feline chronic gingivostomatitis (FCGS) is a chronic mucosal and gingival inflammatory disease in which pathogenesis remains unclear. Interactions between the host inflammatory process, the host immune response, and the oral microbiome are implicated in this pathogenesis. To begin to understand this disease and the impact of the microbiome to host inflammatory disease states, we collected sterile noninvasive plaque biofilm samples from ten distinct sites within the oral cavity in cats with stomatitis ( = 12), healthy cats ( = 9), and cats with tooth resorption or periodontitis ( = 11).

The diagnosis of oral erosions, ulcers, and white lesions in contrast to pigmented lesions in veterinary practice can be challenging. Quantification of Early Neonatal Oxygen Exposure as a Risk Factor for Retinopathy of Prematurity Requiring Treatment.

Purpose: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a leading cause of childhood blindness related to oxygen exposure in premature infants. Since oxygen monitoring protocols have reduced the incidence of treatment-requiring ROP (TR-ROP), it remains unclear whether oxygen exposure remains a relevant risk factor for incident TR-ROP and aggressive ROP (A-ROP), a severe, rapidly progressing form of ROP. The purpose of this proof-of-concept study was to use electronic health record (EHR) data to evaluate early oxygen exposure as a predictive variable for developing TR-ROP and A-ROP.

Integrating knowledge on green infrastructure, health and well-being in ageing populations: Principles for research and practice.

Ageing and urbanisation pose significant challenges for public health and urban planning. Ageing populations are at particular risk from hazards arising from urbanisation processes, some of which are in turn exacerbated by climate change. One approach for mitigating the negative effects of urbanisation on ageing populations is the leveraging of the beneficial effects of urban green infrastructure as a public health intervention in the planning process.

Prevalence of persistent avascular retina in untreated children with a history of retinopathy of prematurity screening.

Persistent avascular retina (PAR) in prematurely born individuals may be a risk factor for late sequelae of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), including retinal detachment in older childhood and adulthood. Although PAR has been associated with use of vascular endothelial growth factor antagonist therapy for treatment-requiring ROP, the prevalence of this finding in patients without prior ROP treatment is unknown. We performed a cross-sectional study to determine the prevalence of PAR in a cohort of patients 4-8 years of age who were screened for ROP in the neonatal intensive care unit and did not receive treatment.

To address the gap, we worked with professional societies and other partners to develop the national surgical, obstetric, anaesthesia and nursing plan 2019-2023.

Management of Severe Oral Inflammatory Conditions in Dogs and Cats.

Severe oral inflammatory disease is not uncommon in the mouths of canine and feline patients. An approach to oral diagnosis is offered. This article discusses a brief review of important points in the oral diagnosis and management of main canine (canine chronic ulcerative stomatitis (CCUS), eosinophilic stomatitis, and Wegener's granulomatosis (WG)) and feline diseases (feline gingivostomatitis/caudal stomatitis, oral eosinophilic lesions, pyogenic granuloma, and autoimmune diseases with oral manifestations), and-whereby possible-information about the current understanding of disease pathogenesis and treatment is offered.
