Confronting environments with low relative humidity is one of the main challenges faced by insects with expanding distribution ranges. (the Mexican fruit fly) has evolved to cope with the variable conditions encountered during its lifetime, which allows it to colonise a wide range of environments. However, our understanding of the mechanisms underpinning the ability of this species to confront environments with low relative humidity is incomplete.
