Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at how well a team of different health professionals can help people with ongoing problems after a concussion.
  • They tested a treatment plan for 15 adults who had a mild brain injury, using psychology, physiotherapy, and medical care.
  • Most of the participants showed big improvements in their symptoms, and these changes lasted even after the treatment was over.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at how different treatments can help people who still feel bad after a concussion.
  • Researchers talked to 13 adults who tried a special program called i-RECOveR to see how it worked for them.
  • They found that the treatment made many people feel better and helped them get back to their daily activities, but there are still areas that need more attention and research.

Stepped-care (SC) models have been adopted in primary care settings as a method for treating mental health conditions within primary care. In a SC model, a patient's symptoms are assessed, and an intervention is prescribed that matches the severity of symptoms. Thus, the SC model offers a variety of steps and levels of treatment that range from low to high intensity.

The availability of long-term (>2 years) safety outcomes of spinal cord stimulation (SCS) remains limited. We evaluated safety in a global SCS registry for chronic pain. Participants were prospectively enrolled globally at 79 implanting centers and followed out to 3 years after device implantation.

Background: The relationship between institutional volume and operative mortality after surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) remains unclear.

Methods: From January 2013 to June 2018, 234 556 patients underwent isolated SAVR (n = 144 177) or SAVR with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) (n = 90 379) within the Society of Thoracic Surgeons Adult Cardiac Surgery Database. The association between annualized SAVR volume (group 1 [1-25 SAVRs], group 2 [26-50 SAVRs], group 3 [51-100 SAVRs], and group 4 [>100 SAVRs]) and operative mortality and composite major morbidity or mortality was assessed.

The proliferation of plastics in the environment continues at an alarming rate. Plastic particles have been found to be persistent and ubiquitous pollutants in a variety of environments, including sea water, fresh water, soil, and air. In light of this phenomenon, the scientific and medical communities have become increasingly wary of the dangers posed to human health by chronic exposure to microplastics (< 5 mm diameter) and nanoplastics (< 100 nm diameter).

Background: Sexual and gender minorities (SGM) experience higher rates of depression and anxiety, which are linked to higher rates of discrimination and victimization. SGM individuals may conceal their SGM identities to decrease discrimination and victimization exposure; however, these experiences still occur, and concealment itself is often associated with greater anxiety and depression. However, it remains unclear whether lifetime victimization and identity concealment moderate the effect of day-to-day discrimination, which we evaluated in the current study using ecological momentary assessment (EMA).

Article Synopsis
  • Theranostic imaging is gaining traction in oncology, helping to identify patients who will benefit from targeted therapies and allowing for monitoring of treatment response.
  • The study focuses on a pretargeted radioimmunotherapy (PRIT) method using copper isotopes, copper-64 and copper-67, which are linked through a unique chemical reaction for targeting cancer cells.
  • Results from mouse models showed a significant increase in median survival times with higher doses of the therapy, highlighting the method's potential effectiveness and the ability to predict outcomes using imaging techniques.

Sexual minority (non-heterosexual) individuals experience higher rates of physical health problems. Minority stress has been the primary explanatory model to account for this disparity. The purpose of this study was to identify in published research empirically established relationships between minority stress processes and biological outcomes and identify avenues for future research.

Objective: Calf complex injuries represent a significant injury burden among Australian Rules athletes. To date, there has been limited research correlating clinical and radiological findings of pathology within the calf. The objective of this study is to determine how accurately magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings correlate with clinical measures of calf muscle complex pathology in elite male athletes.

Recent years have played witness to the advent of nuclear theranostics: the synergistic use of "matched pair" radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic imaging and targeted radiotherapy. In this investigation, we report the extension of this concept to in vivo pretargeting based on the rapid and bioorthogonal inverse electron demand Diels-Alder reaction between tetrazine (Tz) and -cyclooctene (TCO). We demonstrate that a single injection of a TCO-modified immunoconjugate can be used as a platform for pretargeted PET imaging and radiotherapy via the sequential administration of a pair of Tz-bearing radioligands labeled with the positron-emitting radiometal copper-64 ( ≈ 12.

Sexual orientation has been linked to certain health conditions, and yet quantifying sexual orientation in longitudinal studies is challenging. This study examined different methods of accounting for sexual orientation in a cohort study of 300 homeless and unstably housed women followed every 6 months over 3 years. Altogether, 39.

Ipilimumab is an immunotherapeutic agent used in the treatment of metastatic melanoma, and is known to cause hypophysitis in some patients. Magnetic resonance imaging of ipilimumab-induced hypophysitis typically shows diffuse enlargement of the pituitary gland with variable enhancement or enlargement of the infundibulum. This often produces a diagnostic dilemma as melanoma not uncommonly metastasizes to the pituitary gland due to the rich vascular plexus of the hypophyseal portal system, and has a similar imaging appearance to autoimmune hypophysitis.

The infrared optical properties of textiles are of great importance in numerous applications, including infrared therapy and body thermoregulation. Tuning the spectral response of fabrics by the engineering of composite textile materials can produce fabrics targeted for use in these applications. We present spectroscopic data for engineered polyester fabric containing varying amounts of ceramic microparticles within the fiber core and report a spectrally-dependent shift in infrared reflectance, transmittance and absorptance.

Background: Multi-vessel coronary disease in people with ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is common and is associated with worse prognosis after STEMI. Based on limited evidence, international guidelines recommend intervention on only the culprit vessel during STEMI. This, in turn, leaves other significantly stenosed coronary arteries for medical therapy or revascularisation based on inducible ischaemia on provocative testing.

Prediction of post-concussive syndrome after apparent mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) and subsequent cognitive recovery remains challenging, with substantial limitations of current methods of cognitive testing. This pilot study aimed to determine if levels of micro ribonucleic acids (RNAs) circulating in plasma are altered following TBI, and if changes to levels of such biomarkers over time could assist in determination of prognosis after TBI. Patients were enrolled after TBI on presentation to the Emergency Department and allocated to three groups: A - TBI (physical trauma to the head), witnessed loss of consciousness, amnesia, GCS=15, a normal CT Brain and a recorded first pass after post-traumatic amnesia (PTA) scale; B TBI, witnessed LOC, amnesia, GCS=15, a normal CT brain and a PTA scale test fail and: C - TBI and initial GCS <13 on arrival to the ED.
