Aims: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a potential complication of foot and ankle surgery. There is a lack of agreement on contributing risk factors and chemical prophylaxis requirements. The primary outcome of this study was to analyze the 90-day incidence of symptomatic VTE and VTE-related mortality in patients undergoing foot and ankle surgery and Achilles tendon (TA) rupture.

The impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on orthopaedic emergency presentations in a remote and rural population.

Aims: COVID-19 remains the major focus of healthcare provision. Managing orthopaedic emergencies effectively, while at the same time protecting patients and staff, remains a challenge. We explore how the UK lockdown affected the rate, distribution, and type of orthopaedic emergency department (ED) presentations, using the same period in 2019 as reference.

Shoulder outcome measures: is there a right answer?

Purpose: A number of outcome measures (instruments) are used to assess shoulder pain and function in clinical practice. No clear 'gold standard' exists and it is thought that different instruments will give a different answer. Our aim is to statistically compare four commonly used outcome measures in a group of trauma patients and to identify whether instruments which combine objective and subjective components differ from those which are purely subjective.

The Dynesys lumbar spinal stabilization system: a preliminary report on positional magnetic resonance imaging findings.

Study Design: We present the positional magnetic resonance imaging findings of a prospective case series of patients undergoing surgery with the Dynesys spinal stabilization device (Zimmer, Inc., Warsaw, IN).

Objective: To explore the biomechanical impact of the Dynesys device in vivo.
