Daratumumab monotherapy in refractory warm autoimmune hemolytic anemia and cold agglutinin disease.

Autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) is a rare autoantibody-mediated disease. For steroid and/or rituximab-refractory AIHA, there is no consensus on optimal treatment. Daratumumab, a monoclonal antibody targeting CD38, could be beneficial by suppression of CD38+ plasma cells and thus autoantibody secretion.

C1-inhibitor treatment in patients with severe complement-mediated autoimmune hemolytic anemia.

Complement-mediated (CM) autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) is characterized by the destruction of red blood cells (RBCs) by autoantibodies that activate the classical complement pathway. These antibodies also reduce transfusion efficacy via the lysis of donor RBCs. Because C1-inhibitor (C1-INH) is an endogenous regulator of the classical complement pathway, we hypothesized that peritransfusional C1-INH in patients with severe CM-AIHA reduces complement activation and hemolysis, and thus enhances RBC transfusion efficacy.

The aim of this paper is to describe an atypical case of bilateral serous detachments with Roth spots after COVID-19 vaccination using an mRNA vaccine. A healthy, 38-year-old male presented with a central scotoma and metamorphopsia in his left eye, 4 days after his second COVID-19 booster shot.

Videoconferencing interventions and COPD patient outcomes: A systematic review.

Introduction: Videoconferencing circumvents various physical and financial barriers associated with in-person care. Given this technology's potential benefits and timely nature, we conducted a systematic review to understand how videoconferencing for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) follow-up care affects patient-related outcomes.

Methods: We included primary research evaluating the use of bidirectional videoconferencing for COPD patient follow-up.

The aim of this paper was to report the case of a patient with orbital inflammation and dacryoadenitis after COVID-19 vaccination. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we noticed an increase of post-viral syndromes, both linked to infection and to vaccination. A 53-year-old male presented with proptosis, chemosis, hypotropia, and ophthalmoplegia of the right eye, 1 day after his COVID-19 booster shot.

A systematic review of eHealth technologies for breast cancer supportive care.

Breast cancer places a substantial burden on patient physical and mental wellbeing, and the delivery of high-quality supportive care is essential at all stages of the disease. Given the increased uptake of technology in recent years, eHealth interventions may be a convenient and accessible method for supportive care. Within this context, we conducted a systematic review to describe and quantify the use of eHealth for breast cancer supportive care.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR-) T cell therapy is a relatively new form of immunotherapy for hematological malignancies. Although patients are at increased risk of infection following CAR-T cell therapy, reports of fungal infections are scarce. We report a case of infection causing bursitis of the elbow in a lymphoma patient after treatment with CAR-T cells.

Cancer and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality. Therefore, CVD deaths in cancer survivors remain a major challenge in improving cancer outcomes, especially in low and middle income countries (LMICs). Cancer and CVD share many common risk factors, both modifiable risk factors (obesity, diabetes and smoking) and non-modifiable factors such as inflammation.

Purpose: The WHO essential medicines list (EML) guides selection of drugs for national formularies. Here, we evaluate which medicines are considered highest priority by Indian oncologists and the extent to which they are available in routine practice.

Methods: This is a secondary analysis of an electronic survey developed by the WHO EML Cancer Medicine Working Group.

Purpose: Access to essential cancer medicines is a major determinant of childhood cancer outcomes globally. The degree to which pediatric oncologists deem medicines listed on WHO's Model List of Essential Medicines for Children (EMLc) essential is unknown, as is the extent to which such medicines are accessible on the front lines of clinical care.

Methods: An electronic survey developed was distributed through the International Society of Pediatric Oncology mailing list to members from 87 countries.

Training General Practitioners in Oncology: A Needs Assessment Survey From Nepal.

Purpose: Nepal lacks enough cancer care providers to address the growing burden of cancer in the country. One way of addressing this issue is to train general practitioners (GPs) in oncology (GPOs) so that they can task-share and task-shift oncology care. However, limited information is available regarding the current level of oncology expertise of Nepali GPs and whether they perceive a need for, and have an interest in, such a GPO training program if available in Nepal.

Colorectal Cancer Treatment Characteristics and Concordance With Guidelines in Sri Lanka: Results From a Hospital-Based Cancer Registry.

Purpose: Colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks among the top five incident cancers in Sri Lanka (SL). Here, we describe disease characteristics and treatment patterns of patients with CRC in SL.

Methods: All adult patients (age > 18 years) diagnosed with CRC during 2016-2020 were identified from the National Cancer Institute SL cancer registry.

A Sudden Rise of Patients with Acute Macular Neuroretinopathy during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The aim of this paper is to inform on the surge of cases of acute macular neuroretinopathy (AMN) - a rare disease characterized by the sudden onset of acute scotomas caused by ischemia of the retinal capillary plexus - during the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, a sudden rise in patients with AMN was observed in our clinic. In this paper, 4 cases from a hospital in the south of the Netherlands are reported, all of which could directly be linked to a COVID-19 infection or vaccination against the corona virus.
