Characterization of purified intraembryonic hematopoietic stem cells as a tool to define their site of origin.

Little is known about hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) development from mesoderm. To gain more information on the intraembryonic HSC site of origin, we purified multipotent hematopoietic progenitors from the aorta-gonads-mesonephros (AGM) of mice. This population, expressing c-Kit, AA4.

Natural-cycle in vitro fertilization combined with in vitro maturation of immature oocytes is a potential approach in infertility treatment.

Objective: To describe pregnancies and live births that resulted from IVF of mature oocytes retrieved from dominant follicles in a natural cycle combined with in vitro maturation (IVM) of immature oocytes retrieved from small follicles.

Design: Case reports.

Intracellular localization and constitutive endocytosis of CXCR4 in human CD34+ hematopoietic progenitor cells.

CXCR4, the stromal cell-derived factor-1 receptor, plays an important role in the migration of hematopoietic progenitor/stem cells. The surface and cytoplasmic expression of CXCR4 on human hematopoietic CD34(+) cells was investigated. We show that its surface expression is low, whereas a large part of CXCR4 protein is sequestered intracellularly.

Randomized, controlled trial of priming with 10,000 IU versus 20,000 IU of human chorionic gonadotropin in women with polycystic ovary syndrome who are undergoing in vitro maturation.

Preretrieval priming with 10,000 IU hCG can improve oocyte maturation rates in vitro for women undergoing in vivo maturation treatment, though the optimum dose is unknown. This prospective, randomized, controlled trial demonstrated no improvement in oocyte maturation rates with 20,000 IU of hCG compared with 10,000 IU of hCG and therefore no benefit of the higher dose.

NK cell activation by dendritic cells (DCs) requires the formation of a synapse leading to IL-12 polarization in DCs.

Mature dendritic cells (mDCs) can trigger the effector functions of natural killer (NK) cells. Knock-out, small-interfering RNA or neutralizing antibodies targeting interleukin 12 (IL-12) subunits revealed a critical role for IL-12 in NK cell interferon gamma (IFN-gamma) secretion promoted by mDCs. However, NK cell activation by DCs also required direct cell-to-cell contacts.

Osteoma of the condyle as the cause of limited-mouth opening: a case report.

Osteoma is a benign tumour consisting of mature bone tissue. It is an uncommon lesion that occurs mainly in the bones of the craniofacial complex. Only a few cases involving the condylar process have been reported.

[Management of phyllodes tumors of the breast at the National institute of oncology of Rabat, Morocco].

Objectives: Phyllodes tumors of the breast (PTB) are rare fibro epithelial tumors. Their terminology, histological classification and their treatment are exposed to controversy. The aim of our work is to underline the epidemiological, clinical, histological, therapeutical, prognostic and evolutive features of these tumours through a retrospective study and a review of the literature.

Mutant alpha-actinin-4 promotes tumorigenicity and regulates cell motility of a human lung carcinoma.

The precise role of alpha-actinin-4 encoding gene (ACTN4) is not very well understood. It has been reported to elicit tumor suppressor activity and to regulate cellular motility. To further assess the function of human ACTN4, we studied a lung carcinoma cell line expressing a mutated alpha-actinin-4, which is recognized as a tumor antigen by autologous CD8(+) cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL).

Prion protein prevents human breast carcinoma cell line from tumor necrosis factor alpha-induced cell death.

To define genetic determinants of tumor cell resistance to the cytotoxic action of tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF), we have applied cDNA microarrays to a human breast carcinoma TNF-sensitive MCF7 cell line and its established TNF-resistant clone. Of a total of 5760 samples of cDNA examined, 3.6% were found to be differentially expressed in TNF-resistant 1001 cells as compared with TNF-sensitive MCF7 cells.

Expression and molecular characterization of alternative transcripts of the ARHGEF5/TIM oncogene specific for human breast cancer.

The ARHGEF5/TIM oncogene belongs to the Dbl family of guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) for Rho GTPases. It is well established that Rho-GEFs play an important role in tumorigenesis and metastasis through the activation of their substrates, the Rho GTPases. Little is known about ARHGEF5/TIM oncogene expression and cellular functions.

Oral candidosis in non-Hodgkin's lymphoma: a case report.

Though oral candidosis is an opportunistic fungal infection that commonly affects immunocompromised patients, little is known of its occurrence as a complication of Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. This paper reports a case of oral candidosis in a 20-year-old Indonesian woman with this lymphoproliferative disease. She presented with acute pseudomembranous candidosis on the dorsum and lateral borders of the tongue, bilateral angular cheilitis and cheilocandidosis.

The cryobiology of assisted reproduction.

Cryopreservation of human gametes and embryos has become an integral part of assisted reproduction. The major developments in cryopreservation technology have mirrored the rapid expansion of reproductive technology over the past 2 decades. It is now possible to cryopreserve sperm, oocytes and embryos at their various stages of development.

[Post-radiotherapy ureterovaginal fistula. 12 case reports].

The authors report a series of 12 cases of ureterovaginal fistulas observed over 15 years period. Our patients had a mean age of 38 years (range 27 to 44 years old). Eighty four percent of ureterovaginal fistulas were due to radiotherapy and clopohysterectomy.

[Kidney cancer: report of 47 cases].

The authors report a series of 47 cases observed over a 15-years period in the department of carcinological at the national oncological institute of Rabat. Patients consisted of 16 mean and 21 women (57%), with a mean age of 49 years old (range 29 to 70 years). The clinical features were polymorph, firstly loin pain (81%), hematuria is the next (25%).

Hyperammonemia in carnitine-deficient adult JVS mice used by starvation.

Juvenile visceral steatosis (JVS) mouse is an animal model of human primary carnitine deficiency caused by a mutation of the gene encoding carnitine transporter, and suffers from various symptoms, such as fatty liver, growth retardation, hyperammonemia, hypoglycemia, and cardiac hypertrophy. We have shown that hyperammonemia during the weaning period (15-26 days of age) is caused by suppression of urea cycle enzyme gene expression. The suppression resulted from activation of a transcription factor, AP-1.

[Breast angiosarcomas: three case reports].

Angiosarcoma is a rare type of breast cancer, it has the worst prognosis of all breast malignancies. We report three cases of breast angiosarcoma observed at the National Oncology Institute and the Maternity of Orangers. A preoperative diagnosis was evoked in one case only, after a local recurrence in the second one and histological in the last one.

[Association of ovarian juvenile granulosa cell tumor with Maffucci's syndrome].

The authors report a rare case of the ovarian juvenile granulosa cell tumor associated with Maffucci's syndrome (enchondromathosis + hemangiomas), no heriditary mesodermal dysplasia. Sarcomatous changes of chondromas are encountered most frequently; however other various typed neoplasma have been reported: ovarian juvenile granulosa cell tumor may occur not infrequently in female patients with Maffucci's syndrome in the first or second decades. Sarcomatous changes of choromas established prognosis of the Maffucci's syndrome.

A comparison of in vitro maturation and in vitro fertilization for women with polycystic ovaries.

Objective: To establish the relative success of treatment by unstimulated in vitro maturation (IVM) of oocytes or stimulated in vitro fertilization (IVF) in women with polycystic ovaries undergoing assisted conception treatment.

Methods: The case-control study included 107 IVM and 107 IVF cycles matched for age and cause of infertility. In vitro maturation patients underwent transvaginal recovery of immature oocytes during an unstimulated cycle, in vitro oocyte maturation, and fertilization.

Artificial neural networks for blur identification and restoration of nonlinearly degraded images.

In this paper, an image restoration algorithm is proposed to identify noncausal blur function. Image degradation processes include both linear and nonlinear phenomena. A neural network model combining an adaptive auto-associative network with a random Gaussian process is proposed to restore the blurred image and blur function simultaneously.

In vitro maturation and fertilization of oocytes from unstimulated normal ovaries, polycystic ovaries, and women with polycystic ovary syndrome.

Objective: To investigate differences in immature oocyte maturation, fertilization, and pregnancy rates among women with unstimulated normal ovaries, polycystic ovaries (PCOs), or PCOS.

Design: Prospective observational study.

Setting: University fertility clinic.

Arsenic in drinking water and pregnancy outcomes.

We studied a group of women of reproductive age (15-49 years) who were chronically exposed to arsenic through drinking water to identify the pregnancy outcomes in terms of live birth, stillbirth, spontaneous abortion, and preterm birth. We compared pregnancy outcomes of exposed respondents with pregnancy outcomes of women of reproductive age (15-49 years) who were not exposed to arsenic-contaminated water. In a cross-sectional study, we matched the women in both exposed and nonexposed groups for age, socioeconomic status, education, and age at marriage.

Ongoing twin pregnancy after ICSI of PESA-retrieved spermatozoa into in-vitro matured oocytes: case report.

The recovery of immature oocytes from unstimulated ovaries followed by in-vitro maturation (IVM) is an attractive alternative to conventional IVF in the treatment of female infertility. Similarly, surgical recovery of spermatozoa from the epididymis by percutaneous sperm aspiration (PESA) has simplified the retrieval of the male gamete in treatment of men with obstructive azoospermia. We report the first ongoing clinical twin pregnancy resulting from intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) of spermatozoa retrieved by PESA into IVM oocytes.
