The combination of an ordinary s-type superconductor with three-dimensional topological insulators creates a promising platform for fault-tolerant topological quantum computing circuits based on Majorana braiding. The backbone of the braiding mechanism are three-terminal Josephson junctions. It is crucial to understand the transport in these devices for further use in quantum computing applications.

This C/BiTe heterostructure is characterized by an excellent translational order in a novel (4 × 4) C superstructure on a (9 × 9) cell of BiTe. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) of C/BiTe reveals that ML C accepts electrons from the TI at room temperature, but no charge transfer occurs at low temperatures.

Our previous study found Muslim psychiatric inpatients encounter significant obstacles that hinder their ability to engage in a formal prayer practice in the hospital. To address this gap, we aimed to develop a spirituality and religious needs inventory specifically for Muslim psychiatric inpatients.

Methods: Scleral buckling procedure, combined with injection of 0.3 ml of 100% perfluoropropane (C3F8) gas in the vitreous, was performed without intra-operative complications under general anaesthesia as treatment of two separate macula-sparing rhegmatogenous retinal detachments secondary to round holes, involving superior and inferior retina respectively, in the right eye of a 26-year-old Afro-Caribbean female with sickle cell disease.
A systematic study of the impact of film thickness on the properties of thin Bi films is presented. To this end, epitaxial films of high quality have been grown on a Si (111) substrate with thicknesses ranging from 1.9 to 29.

We aimed to assess gastric-protective strategies used upon prescribing NSAIDs and providers' awareness of societal guidelines for preventing NSAID-induced gastric complications.
Methods: A standardized 10-item questionnaire was sent to all orthopedic providers in North Carolina and South Carolina.

A promising water treatment method involves using biomass-derived activated carbon (AC) to remove emerging pollutants from wastewater due to its adsorption capacity, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. Notwithstanding, the existing literature lacks comprehensive studies that specifically focus on removing contaminants in water by comparing the effectiveness of adsorption and photocatalytic degradation methods. Additionally, there is not much emphasis on analyzing the combined processes of adsorption-photocatalytic degradation utilizing AC.

Melanoma is the most aggressive form of skin cancer, characterized by a poor prognosis, and its incidence has risen rapidly over the past 30 years. Recent therapies, notably immunotherapy and targeted therapy, have significantly improved the outcome of patients with metastatic melanoma. Previously dismal five-year survival rates of below 5% have shifted to over 50% of patients surviving the five-year mark, marking a significant shift in the landscape of melanoma treatment and survival.

In this study, we reveal that the hepatic and systemic phenotypes observed following recombination of the Slc25a47-Wars1 locus in hepatocytes are primarily driven by the unexpected downregulation of Wars1, the cytosolic tryptophan aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase located adjacent to Slc25a47. While the downregulation of Wars1 predictably affects cytosolic translation, we also observed a significant impairment in mitochondrial protein synthesis within hepatocytes.

This study explores the conversion of the seed shell of Calophyllum inophyllum into nanocrystalline cellulose (NCC) via consecutive alkalization, bleaching and hydrolysis using various organic acids. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis showed a reduction in the diameter of cellulose fibers from 21.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a complex disorder characterized by elevated androgen levels, menstrual irregularities, and polycystic morphology of the ovaries. Affecting 6-10% of women in childbearing age, PCOS is a leading cause of infertility worldwide. In recent years, there has been a growing acknowledgment of the involvement of adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) in the development of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

We investigate the symmetry of the order parameter in ultra-thin YBaCuO (YBCO) films by measuring the electrical transport properties of nanowires aligned at different angles relative to the main crystallographic axes. The anisotropy of the nanowire critical current in the nodal and antinodal directions reduces with the decrease in the film thickness.

Retinal volume (RV) was measured by two independent observers in eyes with a normal foveal profile (NFP) and was compared with the automated measurements performed by the OCT software (Engineering GmbH, Heidelberg, Germany); the same process was repeated for the volume of the foveal cavity (FC) or foveoschisis (FS) in eyes with lamellar macular holes (LMHs).

We aimed to investigate whether a reproducible difference could be detected beyond interobserver variability between two commonly used manufacturers in their manual calliper facility in spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT) for metrics related to FTMH.
Methods: This is a non-interventional, retrospective, observational study.
The purpose of the present study was to develop a cholic acid-grafted thiolated chitosan (CA-CS-TGA) polymeric biomaterial for attaining improved permeation via attaching thiol groups and cholic acid moieties. For this purpose, a CA-CS-TGA graft was prepared, and modification was confirmed via FTIR analysis. The prepared CA-CS-TGA graft was used to coat the azathioprine-loaded nanoliposomes (ENLs), with subsequent characterization in terms of zeta size, zeta potential, and SEM analysis.

The growing concern of water pollution is a critical issue stemming from industrialization and urbanization. One of the specific concerns within this broader problem is the toxicity associated with chromium (Cr), especially in its Cr (VI) form. Transition metal carbides/nitrides (MXenes) are attractive materials for the treatment of water due to their unique properties such as layered structure, high surface area, conductivity, flexibility, scalable manufacture, and surface functions.
