To mitigate the use of antibiotics for many of the multifactorial diseases seen in pigs, horses and cattle, new diagnostic tools are needed. Acute phase protein (APP) measurements can, in humans, be used to guide antibiotic treatment initiation, evaluate treatment efficacy, and make a prognosis. The aim of this review is to collect evidence on the clinical functionality of APP measurements as a tool to guide antibiotic treatment in pigs, horses, and cattle.

Although HSCs provide multilineage engraftment, individual murine HSCs are lineage biased and contribute unequally to blood cell lineages. Here, we performed high-throughput single-cell RNA sequencing in mice after xenograft with molecularly barcoded adult human BM HSCs.

To gain insight into how CH mutations enable gradual clonal expansion, we used single-cell multi-omics with high-fidelity genotyping on human CH bone marrow (BM) samples. Most of the selective advantage of mutant cells occurs within HSCs.

Here, we present a plate-based approach coupling high-sensitivity genotyping of genomic loci with high-content scATAC-seq libraries from the same single cells. We first describe steps for optimization of genotyping primers, followed by detailed guidance on the preparation of both scATAC-seq and single-cell genotyping libraries, fully automated on high-throughput liquid handling platforms.

Women with metastatic breast cancer (MBC) were enrolled prospectively and underwent a combined [F]FDG-PET/CT and CE-CT scan to diagnose MBC. Experienced nuclear medicine and radiology physicians evaluated the scans blinded to the opposite scan results.

However, no methods currently exist that efficiently link high-content chromatin accessibility with high-confidence genotyping in single cells. To address this, we developed Genotyping with the Assay for Transposase-Accessible Chromatin (GTAC), enabling accurate mutation detection at multiple amplified loci, coupled with robust chromatin accessibility readout.

Most (91%) adverse events were grade 1 or 2. The maximal tolerated dose was not reached.

The primary objective was to predict progression-free and disease-specific survival for responders vs. non-responders on CE-CT and 2-[F]FDG-PET/CT.

We included 37 metastatic breast cancer patients diagnosed and monitored with 2-[F]FDG-PET/CT at Odense University Hospital (Denmark).

Diagnostic methods based on PET/CT have during recent years evolved with new tracer possibilities competing with traditional scintigraphic methods. This investigation is a head-to-head comparison of Tc-99m-sestamibi SPECT/CT gamma camera scintigraphy (sestamibi SPECT/CT) and C-11-L-methionin PET/CT imaging (methionine PET/CT) for preoperative identification of hyperfunctioning parathyroid glands.

Currently, no equally effective substitute has been found and an increase in metaphylactic batch medication with antibiotics is expected. However, prudent use of antibiotics is needed to mitigate antibiotic resistance development and one option could be pre-treatment diagnostics.

The objective was to examine whether progressive disease was detected systematically earlier by one of the modalities.

Here, we characterize the model further by structural comparison to native human and rat skin and by investigating functional characteristics of lipid packing, polarity, and permeability coefficients. We show that the ROC model has structural similarities to native human skin and observe human skin-like permeability coefficients for testosterone and mannitol.

SSX proteins are normally restricted to spermatogenic cells, but ectopic expression can be observed in many types of human cancer. We recently demonstrated that SSX family members may contribute to tumorigenesis by modifying chromatin structure and, in specific settings, compromise chromatin stability. Here, we used normal and tumorigenic breast epithelial cell line models to further study the effect of ectopic expression of SSX2 on nuclear organization.

Two hundred and ninety-four piglets from 21 litters were allocated to three different iron treatments ( = 98). The treatments were 1) Control (CON) provided no supplemental iron, 2) Injected iron (II) provided 200 mg gleptoferron IM on day 3 postpartum, and 3) Milk iron (MI) provided sow milk replacer "DanMilk Supreme" added 1 % "Piglet Boozt" ad libitum from day 0 until 21 days postpartum.

However, due to difficulties in following individual birds on migration, we still lack knowledge about the spatiotemporal origin of protandry during the annual cycle, impeding our understanding of the proximate drivers of this phenomenon. Here, we use full annual cycle tracking data of red-backed shrikes Lanius collurio to investigate the occurrence of sex-related differences in migratory pattern, which could be viewed as precursors (proximate causes) to protandry.

Over the past 2 decades, there has been significant progress in our understanding of the pathological mechanisms underlying these cancers, accompanied by improvements in outcomes for some patients. In particular, advances in next-generation sequencing now make it possible to define the genetic lesions present in each patient, which has led to improved disease classification, risk stratification and identification of new therapeutic targets.

However, the therapy is not effective in all patients, and it would be desirable to have parameters for differentiating patients who will benefit from treatment from those who will not. Retinal fixation has been shown to be impaired in patients with low visual acuity (VA) secondary to macular disease, but the changes in fixational eye movements after anti-VEGF treatment for diabetic maculopathy have not been investigated.

The myotendinous junction (MTJ) is at high risk of strain injuries, due to high amounts of energy that is transferred through this structure. The risk of strain injury is significantly reduced by heavy resistance training (HRT), indicating a remodeling capacity of MTJ. We investigated the degree of remodeling of muscle fibers near the human MTJ.

MICA is recognized by the activating immune cell receptor natural killer group 2D (NKG2D), providing a mechanism by which immune cells can identify and potentially eliminate pathological cells. Immune recognition through NKG2D is implicated in cancer, atherosclerosis, transplant rejection, and inflammatory diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis.

It has been shown that fixational saccades are increased in patients with reduced visual acuity secondary to diabetic maculopathy, but it is unknown to what extent these saccades in an eye affected by diabetic maculopathy are influenced by the other eye during binocular fixation.
Methods: In 57 eyes from 29 diabetic patients with clinically significant macular edema, fixational eye movements were recorded using the iView X™ video-based eye tracker, and quantitative measures of fixation with the worst eye obtained during monocular and binocular fixation were compared.
