Background: Research indicates that positive memories have a role in posttraumatic stress disorder's (PTSD) symptomatology and treatment. Following treatment development guidelines, a novel PTSD intervention - Processing of Positive Memories Technique (PPMT) - was developed and subsequently examined for its effects and feasibility in pilot studies. Extending this research, the proposed pilot randomized clinical trial with PPMT and Supportive Counseling (SC) arms will examine PPMT's effects on PTSD severity and biomarkers of stress systems' dysregulation (awakening salivary alpha amylase [sAA] and cortisol concentrations); examine mechanistic targets (affect) underlying PPMT's effects; and refine PPMT.

Monitoring immunological response to physical stressors in a field setting is challenging because existing methods require a laboratory visit and traditional blood collection via venipuncture. The purpose of this study was to determine if our optimized dry blood spot (DBS) methodology yields sufficient total RNA to quantify the effect of Baker's Yeast Beta Glucan supplementation (BYBG; Wellmune; 250 mg/d) on post-exercise mRNA expression. Participants had venous DBS samples collected prior to (PRE), and immediately (POST), 2 (2H), and 4 (4H) hrs after completion of a 90 min run/walk trial in a hot, humid environment.

Foam rolling (FR) has recently become very popular among athletes and recreational exercisers and is often used during warm up prior to strength training (ST) to induce self-myofascial release. The purpose was to examine the acute effects of ST and FR performed in isolation or in combination on blood pressure (BP) responses during recovery in normotensive women. We sought to examine the effectiveness of an acute prolonged exercise session on post-exercise executive function in physically active adults and to assess if age or pre-exercise cognitive performance was predictive of the magnitude of change in executive task performance. Self-registered cyclists were recruited prior to participating in a 161-km mass-participation cycling event. There is a pervasive belief that the severe-intensity domain is defined as work rates above the power associated with a maximal lactate steady state (MLSS) and by a oxygen uptake (O) response that demonstrates a rapid increase (primary phase) followed by a slower increase (slow component), which leads to maximal oxygen uptake (O) if exercise is continued long enough. Fifteen university students performed 5 to 7 tests to calculate power at MLSS (154 ± 29 W). The tests included 30 min of exercise at each of 3 work rates: () below (-2 ± 1 W) power at MLSS, () above (+4 ± 1 W) the power at MLSS, and () well above (+19 ± 8 W) power at MLSS.
