Aim: As the population is aging, falls by older people, in particular falls from four-wheeled walkers ("rollators"), are a growing problem. These falls must be examined by targeted research and interventions that incorporate gender differences. Therefore, this study examined the injury patterns of elderly patients admitted to a tertiary trauma centre in Switzerland after falls from rollators and focussed on gender differences.

Pre-injury narcotic drug use in isolated severe traumatic brain injury: effect on outcomes.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to explore the association between pre-injury narcotic drug use (opioids, methadone, and/or oxycodone) and outcomes in isolated severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients.

Methods: ACS TQIP study included adult trauma patients (≥ 16 years) with complete drug and alcohol screening. Isolated severe TBI was defined as head trauma with AIS 3-5 and without significant extracranial trauma.

Early Restrictive vs Liberal Oxygen for Trauma Patients: The TRAUMOX2 Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: Early administration of supplemental oxygen for all severely injured trauma patients is recommended, but liberal oxygen treatment has been associated with increased risk of death and respiratory complications.

PTIR spectra enable material identification at the nanoscale and can measure sample composition at depths >1 μm. However, implementation of quantitative, multivariate, nanoscale IR analysis requires an improved understanding of PTIR signal transduction and of the intensity dependence on sample characteristics and measurement parameters.

Kelvin probe force microscopy (KPFM) is an increasingly popular scanning probe microscopy technique used for nanoscale imaging of surface potential for various materials, such as metals, semiconductors, biological samples, and photovoltaics, to reveal their surface work function and/or local accumulation of charges. This featured review outlines the operation principles and applications of KPFM, including several typical commercially available variants. We highlight the significance of surface potential measurements, present the details of the method operation, and discuss the causes of the limitation on spatial resolution.

Background: Deficient mismatch repair (MMR) leading to microsatellite instability (MSI) in tumors is thought to be present in over 15% of colorectal cancer (CRC) cases. Testing CRC for MSI has traditionally been recommended following the fulfillment of clinical criteria. Introduction: During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, increasingly strict restrictions were imposed on the activities of the Swiss population, with a peak from 21 March to 27 April 2020. Changes in trauma patterns during the pandemic and the lockdown have been described in various studies around the world, and highlight some particularly exposed groups of people. The objective of this study was to assess changes in trauma-related presentations to the emergency department (ED) during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, as compared to the same period in the previous year, with a particular focus on vulnerable populations.
