The influence of polyamide 6 composite casings with silver-zinc crystals powder on some of the physicochemicalphysical-chemical, microbiological and sensory indicators of beef and chicken sausages during their storage was evaluated. Beef and chicken sausages were elaborated by using the conventional technology for sausage meat thin pasta; in each case, it was maintained a control batch to compare changes during the storage (4 and 12 °C, 75%-85% RH). To estimate the shelf life was considered sensory evaluation as a criterion for rejection.

Background: Pentoxifylline (PTX) is a methylxanthine compound with immunomodulatory and antifibrotic properties. The simultaneous use of PTX and antifungal therapy (itraconazole) has previously been evaluated in an experimental model of pulmonary paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM), a systemic fungal disease caused by the fungus Paracoccidioides brasiliensis (Pb) and characterized by chronic inflammation and lung fibrosis that appears even after a successful course of antifungal therapy. The results revealed prompt and statistically significant reductions in inflammation and fibrosis when compared to itraconazole alone.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates lung lesions in mice infected with Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, a fungus causing human paracoccidioidomycosis, using a combination of High Resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT) and histopathology.
  • Researchers found three main patterns of lung lesions (nodular-diffuse, confluent, and pseudo-tumoral), primarily affecting the left lung and centered around the hilus.
  • Results showed significant changes in lung density and structure over time, with HRCT effectively indicating the progression of the disease and corresponding histopathological findings.

Background: Conventional film-screen mammography is a highly effective tool for the early diagnosis of breast cancer. Although the mammographic spectrum of fat necrosis has been well documented, and many postsurgical findings mimic carcinoma in clinical examination or imaging studies, the evolution of the mammographic appearance has not previously been reported in patients with a history of breast lipoinjection.

Objective: The purpose of our study was to evaluate the mammographic findings of fat necrosis in patients who had undergone breast lipoinjection and to determine whether there are any specific features that help to distinguish fat necrosis caused by fat injection from more worrisome findings.
