The development and validation of a simple, comprehensive, and environment-friendly procedure to determine pesticide residues, naturally occurring and processing contaminants in roasted coffee is presented. A solid-liquid extraction of pesticides and mycotoxins with ethyl acetate and the concurrent partition of acrylamide to an aqueous phase follows a parallel analytical strategy that requires a single analytical portion to determine contaminants that are typically analyzed by dedicated single residue methods. The partition rules the lipids out of the aqueous extract before an "in-tube" dispersive solid phase microextraction (dSPME) for acrylamide retention.

Glyphosate and phosphate compete for the same adsorption sites in the soil because their adsorption mechanisms are similar as the herbicide contains a phosphate group. However, how this competition occurs in relation to the order of addition of the sorbate and the composition of the soils remains unclear. The effect of the soil clay composition and the order of glyphosate and monoammonium phosphate (MAP) additions on glyphosate sorption-desorption was investigated using three inceptisols collected from Colombian rice fields.

The following qualitative screening and quantitative determination of 201 pesticides present a detailed optimization making use of design of experiments (DoE). The post-targeted screening took advantage of an upgradeable database to extend the survey further to perform a standard-free novel quantitation by liquid chromatography high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS). The fine tuning of instrumental parameters allowed the best method selectivity, sensitivity and reproducibility for the compounds under study.

The most relevant parameters of a multimode inlet were optimized to increase the injection volume up to 25 μL using solvent vent mode in order to improve the sensitivity of the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry system. Consequently, the implementation of a concurrent backflushing was necessary to largely prevent the expected loss of performance derived from such matrix load out of a general-purpose extraction (EN-15622-QuEChERS). Additionally, four mixtures of compounds used as analyte protectants were tested using spiked physalis to enhance the quality of signals.
