Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder in which there is slow and gradual impairment of mental function. Considering the increase in cases due to population aging, the potential benefits of physical training in AD are of great importance and need further elucidation. This study aims to identify the impact of physical training on crucial aspects of AD such as cognitive status, physical performances, quality of life and activities of daily living.

Increasing the power and spectral efficiencies of an OFDM-based VLC system through multi-objective optimization.

The nonlinearity induced by light-emitting diodes in visible light communication (VLC) systems presents a challenge to the parametrization of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). The goal of the multi-objective optimization problem presented in this study is to maximize the transmitted power (superimposed LED bias-current and signal amplification) for both conventional and constant envelope (CE) OFDM while also maximizing spectral efficiency. Performance evaluation of a simplified power-domain NOMA for visible light communications.

The performance of a visible light communication (VLC) system based on power-domain nonorthogonal multiple access (PD-NOMA) is experimentally evaluated in this paper. The simplicity of the adopted nonorthogonal scheme is provided by the fixed power allocation method at the transmitter and the single one-tap equalization executed before the successive interference cancellation at the receiver. The experimental results proved the successful transmission of the PD-NOMA scheme with three users in VLC links of up to 2.

Optimizing Resources and Increasing the Coverage of Internet-of-Things (IoT) Networks: An Approach Based on LoRaWAN.

A resource optimization methodology is proposed for application in long range wide area networks (LoRaWANs). Using variable neighborhood search (VNS) and a minimum-cost spanning tree algorithm, it reduces the implementation and the maintenance costs of such low power networks. Performance evaluations were conducted in LoRaWANs with LoRa repeaters to increase coverage, in scenario where the number and the location of the repeaters are determined by the VNS metaheuristic.

The study aimed to analyze the profile of Health Counselors in the Municipality of Jequié-BA, and identify their knowledge about the function. A descriptive, exploratory and qualitative research was carried out with ten active Health Counselors, in 2008. Data analysis was performed according to the technique of Collective Subject Discourse, and the following categories emerged: the importance of acting as Health Counselor; counselor's function; and lack of training for the role.

Possible anxiolytic effect of two extracts of Passiflora quadrangularis L. in experimental models.

Several species of the genus Passiflora, known in Brazil as 'maracujá', have widespread use in folk medicine as sedatives and anxiolytics. The anxiolytic activities of aqueous and hydroalcohol extracts of Passiflora quadrangularis leaves were evaluated using the elevated plus-maze, open field and holeboard tests. The hydroalcohol extract presented results suggestive of anxiolytic activity in dosages around 100, 250 and 500 mg/kg, as expressed by elevation of the time spent on the open arms in the plus-maze; a decrease of freezing and an increase of deambulation and rearing in the open field test.

[Leptomeningeal carcinomatosis as the first clinical manifestation of lung adenocarcinoma: case report].

Leptomeningeal carcinomatosis is a neurological complication of several systemic tumors and is characterized by multifocal invasion of the meninges by neoplastic cells. It is estimated that 5% of all patients with cancer will present leptomeningeal carcinomatosis at some time during the course of the illness. Clinical manifestations are heterogeneous and present with signs and symptoms related to involvement of multiple areas of the nervous system, particularly cranial nerves and spinal roots.
