- The study examines the effectiveness of clindamycin compared to traditional antibiotics for treating methicillin-sensitive Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA) bacteremia in a cohort from a hospital in Colombia between 2013 and 2019.
- Out of 486 patients studied, clindamycin showed similar rates of microbiological cure and in-hospital mortality when compared to other anti-MSSA antibiotics, despite patients on clindamycin having a slightly lower cure rate (84%).
- The main source of infections was found to be central or peripheral catheters, with noted increases in complications and mortality for those with metastatic disease.
