Bacterial source characterization and allocation are imperative to watershed planning and identifying best management practices. The Spatially Explicit Load Enrichment Calculation Tool (SELECT) has been extensively utilized in watershed protection plans to evaluate the potential bacteria loads and sources in impaired watersheds. However, collecting data, compiling inputs, and spatially mapping sources can be arduous, time-intensive, expensive, and iterative until potential bacteria loads are appropriately allocated to sources based on stakeholder recommendations.

Therefore, monitoring food at each step during processing until it reaches the consumer is crucial, but current techniques are complicated and time-consuming. Here, we designed a whole-cell biosensor using a histamine-responsive genetic element expressing a fluorescent protein in the presence of the cognate target.

Deserts and semi-arid environments are habitats to rare species, rich cultural heritage, and essential ecological processes. Approximately 46% of the world's surface area is covered by drylands (arid, semi-arid, and dry sub-humid areas), where 3 billion people live and unfortunately witness water insecurity and desertification implications. In this context, the present study argued that reduced dryland ecosystem services and decreased ecosystem health have resulted from the individual and compounding impacts of desertification, water scarcity, and climate change.

Acute liver failure (ALF) is usually due to viral hepatitis and toxins. We have recently seen a patient with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) presenting with ALF. High clinical suspicion is necessary for making a diagnosis of this rare etiology presenting as ALF.

Clinical presentations are non-specific and diagnosis remains great clinical challenge. Microbiological and or histopathological evidences need to be present in order make diagnosis secure before initiation of anti-tubercular therapy (ATT).

Hence, this study is aimed at seeing the distributions of blood biochemical and haematological parameters in rural population.
Methods: This cross-sectional study investigated the distribution of 26 different haematological and biochemical parameters in longitudinal cohort study (Srinivaspura Aging, NeuoSenescence and COGnition - SANSCOG), from the villages of Srinivaspura, Kolar district, India.
Background/aims: Patients of ulcerative colitis (UC) on follow-up are routinely evaluated by sigmoidoscopy. There is no prospective literature to support this practice. We assessed agreement between sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy prospectively in patients with disease extent beyond the sigmoid colon.

Esophageal TB most commonly presents with dysphagia, odynophagia, retrosternal pain, and systemic symptoms like decreased appetite, loss of weight, and low-grade fever as associated or other presentations.

The process of language acquisition constitutes a form of natural brain training, which in turn is hypothesized to increase neuroplasticity and hence, maintains the cognitive reserve. The study aimed to analyze the relationship between the number of languages known to an individual and its effect on cognitive functioning in both healthy and cognitively impaired study participants.

The objective was to compare clinical and laboratory features of uncomplicated acute NAEH with acute viral (AVH) and autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and histopathology in NAEH and AIH.
Methods: Cases of hepatocellular jaundice were included.
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the healthcare systems worldwide since the dawn of 2020. In March 2020, the United Kingdom government announced the first national lockdown which severely disturbed all National Health Service (NHS) healthcare elective services. Our aim is to assess the long-term impact of COVID-19 related disruption of NHS elective services on emergency major lower limb amputations (MLLAs).

Psoralea corylifolia Linn (Bakuchi or Babchi), commonly known as purple fleabane, is a popular herb used in Ayurvedic traditional medicine. Its seeds, called Fructus Psoraleae, are traditionally used for treating leprosy, vitiligo, and psoriasis in the absence of empirical evidence. We report the first case of acute on chronic liver failure (ACLF) caused by Bakuchi, a well-documented hepatotoxic agent, in a middle-aged female.

There is a paucity of data on the outcome of tofacitinib in biological-naïve UC patients. The present study was aimed at analyzing the safety and efficacy of tofacitinib in biological-naïve Indian patients with UC.

Introduction: Electrosurgical unit (ESU) is integral to the endoscopy unit. The proper knowledge of the Mode with setting is essential for good therapeutic outcomes and the safety of the patients.
Areas Covered: ESU generates high-frequency electric current, which could perform cutting and coagulation for various therapeutic interventions.
Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is asymptomatic at an early stage which delays its timely diagnosis and treatment. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs), derived from a primary or secondary tumor, may help in the management of HCC. Here, we evaluate and characterize CTCs in liver disease patients.
