Role of HDLive in Imaging the Fetal Heart.

HDLive is a rendering methodology that generates realistic images of the human fetus from sonographic data. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the utility of high-definition live in evaluating fetal heart especially in the first trimester (11-14-week) scan. The normal atrioventricular valve and its abnormalities along with septal defects can be vividly demonstrated with this technique, and eight cases with cardiac defects are illustrated.

Disseminated Cryptococcosis in an Immunocompetent Child.

A case of disseminated cryptococcus infection in an immunocompetent host is described. The present case attests to the importance of using a cautious approach for the diagnosis of granulomatous lymphadenitis. The patient was initially misdiagnosed and treated as disseminated tuberculosis.

A multi-analyte immunoassay for thyroid related analytes.

We describe the development and validation of multianalyte immunoassays (MAIA) for three analytes, viz., thyroxine (T4), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and thyroglobulin (Tg) essential for assessment of thyroid function but having widely varying molecular weights. Using polycarbonate (PC) track-etched membranes (TEM) as an immobilization support and I as the tracer, both competitive assay for T4 and non-competitive assay for TSH and Tg were performed on the same TEM.

CD8-positive Mycosis Fungoides Masquerading as Pyoderma Gangrenosum.

Mycosis fungoides (MF), a primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, accounts for <1% of non-Hodgkin lymphomas. The diagnosis of classic MF is based on a constellation of typical clinical presentation, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and T-cell monoclonality detected by molecular studies. Rarely, atypical clinical presentation may occur.

Why is diagnosis not probabilistic in clinical-pathological conference (CPCs): Point.

The main reason a probabilistic approach is not employed for diagnosis in clinical-pathological conferences (CPCs) is the notion of prior probability as prior evidence in it which encourages failure to suspect diseases with atypical presentations thus increasing diagnostic errors. In addition, errors in some individual persons are a necessary consequence of employing a probabilistic approach for inference as is seen in its use in the life insurance business. This consequence is in conflict with the aim in diagnosis of determining a disease correctly in every individual patient which also leads to a probabilistic approach not being employed in CPCs.

An investigation into method of diagnosis in clinicopathologic conferences (CPCs).

An analysis of 50 clinicopathologic conferences (CPCs) reveals the method of diagnosis in them to consist of construction of exhaustive differential diagnosis followed by evaluation of each disease in it by the likelihood inference approach. This method leads to 98% diagnostic accuracy in these CPCs. A probabilistic approach is found not to be employed for evaluation of a disease.

Role of Tamponade in Vitrectomy for Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy with Vitreous Hemorrhage.

Aim: To analyze the role of tamponade in vitrectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy with vitreous hemorrhage.

Methods: A retrospective chart analysis of patients who underwent vitrectomy for proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) between 2006 and 2013, with a minimum follow-up of six months, was done. The data collected included age, gender, control of diabetes, pre- and postoperative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), retinal detachment, type of tamponade, and recurrence of vitreous hemorrhage (VH).

Toll-like Receptor-4 Polymorphisms and Serum Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 in Newly Diagnosed Patients With Calcified Neurocysticercosis and Seizures.

We evaluated seizure profile, Toll-like receptor (TLR)-4 polymorphisms, and serum matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in patients with calcified neurocysticercosis.One-hundred nine patients with calcified neurocysticercosis with newly diagnosed seizures and 109 control subjects were enrolled. TLR-4 Asp299Gly and Thr399Ile polymorphisms and serum MMP-9 levels were evaluated.

Ganglioneuroblastoma: Unusual presentation as a pleural mass mimicking mesothelioma.

Ganglioneuroblastoma (GNB) is a rare peripheral neuroblastic tumor that is derived from developing neuronal cells of the sympathetic nervous system, and usually occurs in young children. We present a case of GNB occurring as pleural mass in a 2-year-old boy, which led to diagnostic confusion. On fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), it was misinterpreted as mesothelioma.

Development of novel triplex single-step real-time PCR assay for detection of Hepatitis Virus B and C simultaneously.

Multiplex RT-PCR assays are widely used tools for detection of hepatitis viruses, but none of them provide quality check of sample. In the present study we developed a single-step triplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for detection of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) with sample quality check, by using β-actin as housekeeping gene. The primers and probes were self-designed and assay was standardized.

Perturbation of nucleo-cytoplasmic transport affects size of nucleus and nucleolus in human cells.

Size regulation of human cell nucleus and nucleolus are poorly understood subjects. 3D reconstruction of live image shows that the karyoplasmic ratio (KR) increases by 30-80% in transformed cell lines compared to their immortalized counterpart. The attenuation of nucleo-cytoplasmic transport causes the KR value to increase by 30-50% in immortalized cell lines.

Complete Genome Sequences of Hepatitis B Virus from North India Using Ion Torrent.

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is among the most common causes of liver cirrhosis. We report the full-genome sequences of seven molecular clones of HBV genotype A, amplified from an HBV-infected North Indian patient. This is probably the first report of the HBV genome sequencing using Ion Torrent from India.

In vitro validation of self designed "universal human Influenza A siRNA".

The genomic variability of Influenza A virus (IAV) makes it difficult for the existing vaccines or anti-influenza drugs to control. The siRNA targeting viral gene induces RNAi mechanism in the host and silent the gene by cleaving mRNA. In this study, we developed an universal siRNA and validated its efficiency in vitro.

Wide-Field Lensing Mass Maps from Dark Energy Survey Science Verification Data.

We present a mass map reconstructed from weak gravitational lensing shear measurements over 139  deg2 from the Dark Energy Survey science verification data. The mass map probes both luminous and dark matter, thus providing a tool for studying cosmology. We find good agreement between the mass map and the distribution of massive galaxy clusters identified using a red-sequence cluster finder.

Outcome of different techniques of pterygium excision with conjunctival autografting in pediatric population: Our experience in central India.

Aim: To analyze surgical outcome of pterygium excision with conjunctival autografting in pediatric population ≤16 years.

Settings And Design: Retrospective case series.

Materials And Methods: A case sheet review of 145 patients (167 eyes) aged ≤16 years consecutively presented with pterygium from April 2008 to August 2014 in the single center was done.

Taming Influenza Virus: Role of Antisense Technology.

Human Influenza A virus (IAV), a relatively newer threat to mankind, is becoming invincible due to non availability of proper antiviral drug or effective long lasting vaccine against it. All existing measures to control this virus are overpowered by the phenomena of genetic shift and drift shown by Influenza A virus (IAV). Throughout the world, researchers are exploring the therapeutic potential of antisense technology (AST) to fight against this genetically variable virus.

Phenols from green tea as a dual functional coating to prepare devices for energy storage and molecular separation.

Polyphenols from green tea were used to electrolessly deposit gold on silk cocoons (SCs) and nanoporous aluminum oxide (AAO) templates. The gold coated cocoons were used as electrodes in supercapacitors and showed a capacitance as high as 254 F g(-1) and a specific power of 2287 W kg(-1). A metal coated AAO template was used for molecular separation.
