HDLive is a rendering methodology that generates realistic images of the human fetus from sonographic data. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the utility of high-definition live in evaluating fetal heart especially in the first trimester (11-14-week) scan. The normal atrioventricular valve and its abnormalities along with septal defects can be vividly demonstrated with this technique, and eight cases with cardiac defects are illustrated.

We describe the development and validation of multianalyte immunoassays (MAIA) for three analytes, viz., thyroxine (T4), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and thyroglobulin (Tg) essential for assessment of thyroid function but having widely varying molecular weights. Using polycarbonate (PC) track-etched membranes (TEM) as an immobilization support and I as the tracer, both competitive assay for T4 and non-competitive assay for TSH and Tg were performed on the same TEM.

Mycosis fungoides (MF), a primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, accounts for <1% of non-Hodgkin lymphomas. The diagnosis of classic MF is based on a constellation of typical clinical presentation, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, and T-cell monoclonality detected by molecular studies. Rarely, atypical clinical presentation may occur.

The main reason a probabilistic approach is not employed for diagnosis in clinical-pathological conferences (CPCs) is the notion of prior probability as prior evidence in it which encourages failure to suspect diseases with atypical presentations thus increasing diagnostic errors. In addition, errors in some individual persons are a necessary consequence of employing a probabilistic approach for inference as is seen in its use in the life insurance business. This consequence is in conflict with the aim in diagnosis of determining a disease correctly in every individual patient which also leads to a probabilistic approach not being employed in CPCs.

An analysis of 50 clinicopathologic conferences (CPCs) reveals the method of diagnosis in them to consist of construction of exhaustive differential diagnosis followed by evaluation of each disease in it by the likelihood inference approach. This method leads to 98% diagnostic accuracy in these CPCs. A probabilistic approach is found not to be employed for evaluation of a disease.

Ganglioneuroblastoma (GNB) is a rare peripheral neuroblastic tumor that is derived from developing neuronal cells of the sympathetic nervous system, and usually occurs in young children. We present a case of GNB occurring as pleural mass in a 2-year-old boy, which led to diagnostic confusion. On fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC), it was misinterpreted as mesothelioma.

Multiplex RT-PCR assays are widely used tools for detection of hepatitis viruses, but none of them provide quality check of sample. In the present study we developed a single-step triplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for detection of Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and Hepatitis C Virus (HCV) with sample quality check, by using β-actin as housekeeping gene. Size regulation of human cell nucleus and nucleolus are poorly understood subjects. 3D reconstruction of live image shows that the karyoplasmic ratio (KR) increases by 30-80% in transformed cell lines compared to their immortalized counterpart. The attenuation of nucleo-cytoplasmic transport causes the KR value to increase by 30-50% in immortalized cell lines.

We present a mass map reconstructed from weak gravitational lensing shear measurements over 139  deg2 from the Dark Energy Survey science verification data. The mass map probes both luminous and dark matter, thus providing a tool for studying cosmology. We find good agreement between the mass map and the distribution of massive galaxy clusters identified using a red-sequence cluster finder.

Polyphenols from green tea were used to electrolessly deposit gold on silk cocoons (SCs) and nanoporous aluminum oxide (AAO) templates. The gold coated cocoons were used as electrodes in supercapacitors and showed a capacitance as high as 254 F g(-1) and a specific power of 2287 W kg(-1). A metal coated AAO template was used for molecular separation.
