Impacts of long-term irrigation of municipally-treated wastewater to the soil microbial and nutrient properties.

Reusing treated wastewater (TWW) for crop irrigation has shown to provide environmental and economic benefits as well as drawbacks. This study was conducted using soils collected from a wastewater reuse facility in Tallahassee, FL, mainly to elucidate the long-term impact(s) of TWW irrigation on soil microbiome and nutrient status. Approximately 890 ha of land have been spray-irrigated with TWW since the 1980's to grow fodder crops.

Knee osteoarthritis is a chronic degenerative disease associated with pain and decreased mobility that affects advanced-age individuals, thus causing further debilitation. Radiofrequency ablation can benefit patients who are not ideal candidates for surgical intervention and for whom conservative management has been unsatisfactory. Currently, radiofrequency ablation is performed using either ultrasonography or fluoroscopy.

Cochlear implant in Wolfram syndrome: A case report.

Introduction: Wolfram syndrome, a rare autosomal recessive disorder, is characterised by diabetes insipidus, juvenile diabetes mellitus, optic nerve atrophy and deafness (DIDMOAD).

Case Report: We present a case of a 21-year-old male diagnosed with Wolfram syndrome who underwent cochlear implantation due to progressive hearing loss. The patient first complained of bilateral hearing loss at the age of 8 years.

Introduction: Lack of social support negatively impacts medical trainees' wellness. Programmes to educate medical trainees and their support persons (SPs) have been developed to improve resident wellness, but implementation of these programmes at other institutions remains unclear. Lynch syndrome (LS) is an autosomal dominant hereditary cancer predisposition syndrome whereby the lifetime risk of developing gastrointestinal and genitourinary cancers rises by to over 50%. It is caused by heterozygous variants in the DNA mismatch repair genes- MLH1, MSH2, MSH6 and PMS2, with the majority detected in MLH1 and MSH2. Recurrently observed LS-associated variants in apparently unrelated individuals have either arisen de novo in different families due to mutation hotspots or are inherited from a common ancestor (founder) that lived several generations back.

Primitive Myxoid Mesenchymal Tumor of Infancy: A Lost Battle.

Primitive myxoid mesenchymal tumor of infancy (PMMTI) is a low to intermediate-grade, poorly differentiated myofibroblastic tumor and is characterized by its tendency to recur locally. It commonly occurs in the 1 year of life and is predominantly seen in the axial skeleton and rarely in the retroperitoneum. We report one such case of PMMTI, which is the second case reported in English literature.

PvuII-ESR1 gene polymorphism in premenstrual dysphoric disorder in South Indian women.

Background: Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a condition that affects nearly 3-9% of the women in the reproductive age during the luteal phase of each menstrual cycle characterized by symptoms varying in severity and affecting the quality of life. Earlier research studies conducted have reported independent relationships between PvuII-ESR1-polymorphism and psychological traits in PMDD and risk for cognitive, behavioral, and affective symptoms. However, as the studies are few in number and the results are not consistent, there is a need for our study to link between the PvuII-ESR1gene and PMDD.

Background: Premenstrual dysphoric disorder is a mood disorder that has been recognized in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) as a subcategory of depressive disorders. The disorder has a high prevalence rate, and yet no uniform measure is standardized on the Indian population.

Further, despite significant progress toward a nonhormonal male contraceptive targeting the protein encoded by one of these genes, epididymal peptidase inhibitor (EPPIN), and associations found between mutations in and an increased risk of male infertility, neither EPPIN nor any closely related whey acidic protein four-disulfide core (WFDC) gene have been explored functionally. To clarify the involvement of WFDC genes in male fertility, we strategically used CRISPR/Cas9 to generate mice lacking 13, 10, 5, or 4 genes within the cluster and demonstrated that males with deletions of 13, 10, or 4 genes (Wfdc6a, Eppin, Wfdc8, and Wfdc6a) were sterile due to an arrest in spermatogenesis, preventing formation beyond round spermatids.

An 80-Year-Old Man With Intractable Cough.

An 80-year-old man with no history of substance addiction presented with complaints of cough and breathlessness for 4 months. His cough was nonproductive, waxing and waning in nature with high symptom load during daytime, but not associated with chest pain or wheezing. The population of cancer survivors is on the rise due to an increase in cancer incidence and a decline in cancer mortality. This growing survivor population creates a number of challenges. Although there have been improvements in care planning for cancer survivors, our healthcare system still lacks the delivery of coordinated care between primary care physicians and specialists.

Endometriosis is a debilitating disease affecting 190 million women worldwide and the greatest single contributor to infertility. The most broadly accepted etiology is that uterine endometrial cells retrogradely enter the peritoneum during menses, implant and form invasive lesions in a process analogous to cancer metastasis. However, over 90% of women suffer retrograde menstruation, but only 10% develop endometriosis, and debate continues as to whether the underlying defect is endometrial or peritoneal.

Objectives: Patients with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorders (HSD) experience a wide array of symptoms and system disorders.
