COVID-19 among Amazonian indigenous in Peru: mortality, incidence, and clinical characteristics.

Background: Few studies have described the clinical characteristics of patients with COVID-19 from ethnic minority groups. Our objective was to evaluate the mortality and incidence rates, clinical characteristics and factors associated with mortality in cases with COVID-19 belonging to the Amazonian indigenous ethnic group in Peru.

Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study including all cases from COVID-19 among Peruvian people identified as Amazonian indigenous from 07 March to 31 October 2020.

Short-term and oncological outcomes in laparoscopic colectomy in colon cancer stage I-III with 3-year follow-up.

Background: Laparoscopic colectomy (LC) presents similar short-term results and oncological outcomes to conventional colectomy (CC) in colon cancer.

Objectives: Compare short-term and oncological outcomes at 3-year follow up between LC and CC.

Materials And Methods: Patients who underwent LC and CC for colon cancer between January 2010 and December 2017 were retrospectively analyzed.

Comparative dosing and efficacy of sorafenib in hepatocellular cancer patients with varying liver dysfunction.

Background: Sorafenib is the only FDA-approved systemic therapy for advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). In clinical practice, dose reductions are often required, although there are limited efficacy data related to dose modifications. Given the prevalence of HCC in South Texas, we assessed the efficacy and safety of sorafenib therapy in relation to dose and Child Pugh (CP) score.
