Article Synopsis
  • The incidence of total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is rising, leading to concerns about complications like heterotopic ossification, which is bone growth in abnormal areas.
  • A unique case is presented where a patient developed extensive heterotopic ossification 13 years after revision TKA, causing functional ankylosis, but chose nonsurgical treatment.
  • This case highlights the need for awareness and preventive strategies against heterotopic ossification in knee surgeries, including medication, radiation, physical therapy, and various treatment options for severe cases.
