Background: Educational standards of advanced musculoskeletal physiotherapy include mentored clinical practice. Whilst traditionally delivered face-to-face, telehealth e-mentoring affords a distinctive andragogy to facilitate mentee development.
Objective: To understand the experiences and outcomes of stakeholders participating in musculoskeletal physiotherapy telehealth e-mentoring.
Communication between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and mitochondria plays a pivotal role in Ca signaling, energy metabolism, and cell survival. Dysfunction in this cross-talk leads to metabolic and neurodegenerative diseases. Wolfram syndrome is a fatal neurodegenerative disease caused by mutations in the ER-resident protein WFS1.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) enables their identification in vivo-rapidly, repetitively, and at a high resolution. This protocol describes OCT imaging in the mouse retina as a powerful tool to study optic neuropathies (OPN).

The pigments were detected by LC-DAD-ESI-MS/MS technique.

Aim: To compare free circulating levels of VEGF and its soluble receptors (sVEGFR1 and VEGFR2) in patients with different forms of chronic urticaria.
Methods: The concentrations of VEGF and its receptors in plateletpoor plasma (PPP)/plasma were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in chronic urticaria: (1) chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) with positive autologous serum skin test (ASST), (2) CSU with negative response to ASST, (3) CSU with concomitant euthyroid Hashimoto's thyroiditis (CSU/Hashimoto), (4) delayed pressure urticaria (DPU), and the healthy subjects.
Wolfram syndrome is an early onset genetic disease (1/180,000) featuring diabetes mellitus and optic neuropathy, associated to mutations in the WFS1 gene. Wfs1-/- mouse model shows pancreatic beta cell atrophy, but its visual performance has not been investigated, prompting us to study its visual function and histopathology of the retina and optic nerve. Electroretinogram and visual evoked potentials (VEPs) were performed in Wfs1-/- and Wfs1+/+ mice at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months of age.

Its importance for mature endothelium has been described, but its role in proangiogenic progenitors is not well known. We investigated the effect of HO-1 on the angiogenic potential of bone marrow-derived cells (BMDCs) and on blood flow recovery in ischemic muscle of diabetic mice.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAims: Haem oxygenase-1 (HO-1) is a haem-degrading enzyme that generates carbon monoxide, bilirubin, and iron ions. Through these compounds, HO-1 mitigates cellular injury by exerting antioxidant, anti-apoptotic, and anti-inflammatory effects. Here, we examined the influence of HO-1 deficiency and transient hypoxia/ischaemia-induced HO-1 overexpression on post-injury hindlimb recovery.

Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and its sulfate derivative (DHEA-S) are weak androgens produced in the adrenals and serve as primary precursors in biosynthesis of both, androgens and estrogens. These hormones are proposed to perform immunoenhancing activities and may play a crucial role in regulating cytokine production by Th1/Th2 cells; however, their role in immune-mediated diseases is controversial. The primary physiological role of DHEA-(S) and its mechanism is unclear.

The objective of the recent study was to determine blood rheological profile in patients with AD at different clinical stages. Blood rheology, as estimated by blood viscosity as well as deformability (elongation index-EI) and aggregation of erythrocytes (aggregation half time (AT1/2)--expressing the kinetic aspects and syllectogram amplitude (AMP)--representing total aggregation extent) were measured in 25 female AD patients, who showed clinical features of mild to severe AD and in 14 healthy subjects.

Human inner cell mass (ICM) cells isolated from in vitro fertilized blastocysts are the progenitor cells used to establish in vitro stable human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) which are pluripotent and self-renew indefinitely. This long-term perpetuation of hESCs in the undifferentiated state is thought to be an in vitro adaptation of the ICM cells. To investigate at the molecular level how hESCs acquired their unique properties, transcriptional profiles of isolated ICM cells and undifferentiated hESCs were compared.

The aim of the study was to assess plasma concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides (TG) and two parameters of oxidation stress--vitamin E and oxysterols, in morbidly obese patients with coexisting arterial hypertension and non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Studies were performed in 37 morbidly obese patients divided into three groups: group I--without coexisting diseases, group II--with arterial hypertension, and group III--with arterial hypertension and non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.

The aim of the study was to assess concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), HDL-cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol, triglycerides (TG), products of cholesterol peroxidation--oxysterols, and the major lipophilic antioxidant--vitamin E, in morbidly obese women without coexisting diseases. The study was performed in 11 morbidly obese women (BMI 42.

The method was applied in 79 outpatients and 86 inpatients in cases of: 1) isolated mandibular fractures in 124 cases (without displacement in 88 and with displacement in 36), 2/15 cases of dislocated teeth, 3) 10 cases of alveolar process fractures, 4) 6 cases of maxilla fracture, 5) 2 cases of tooth reimplantation, 6) 8 cases of osteosynthesis. This immobilization was done only in patients with preserved permanent teeth or with only some teeth missing, in recent fractures without displacement or with only slight displacement.

The neoplasm destroyed the maxilla, infiltrated the nasal cavity, ethmoid bone, cheeks, lower eyelid, temple, and facial nerve rami on the left side, and began penetrating into the left orbit and right sphenopalatine fossa. The general condition of the patient was good.

These supernumerary teeth were situated symmetrically in the vicinity of the lateral incisors. They were well developed, atypical, one was partly retained, with indentations in the crown, the other was completely retained and showed enamel hypoplasia.
