The PERSIAN eye cohort study is a population-based study that evaluates the overall prevalence of cataracts and their subtypes (nuclear sclerosis, cortical, and PSC) in Iran. In this study, from January 2015 to September 2021, 16,016 participants over 35 years of age from four provinces who were selected by random cluster sampling were examined. Demographic information, education, socioeconomic status, and place of residence were collected through interviews.

Offset-enhanced slow light in femtosecond laser-fabricated Bragg gratings.

We report a strength-enhanced waveguide second-order line-Bragg grating (WLBG) directly written with femtosecond laser in bulk glass by using "offset" to exploit the slow-light effect. This design eschews the use of multiple waveguides and/or waveguide bundles for light guiding. Instead, it only employs a single-laser-pass waveguide (SLPWG) with a refractive index change of 1.

Phospholipid (PL) is an essential nutrient that has vital effects on growth, stress resistance, and early development in marine fish larvae. In this regard, a 30-day feeding experiment was conducted in order to examine the effects of live prey enrichment with graded levels of soy lecithin (SL) on some physiological responses of Acanthopagrus latus larvae. Four experimental emulsion levels of SL were used to enrich rotifer and Artemia including very low (2%, N-Nil), low (4%, L), medium (8%, M), and high (12%, H).

Background: Unintentional falls are one of the main causes of death and a significant burden on victims, families, and communities. This study aimed to determine the trend analysis of mortality rate and years of life lost (YLL) due to unintentional falls in Fars Province, Iran.

Methods: All deaths due to unintentional fall in Fars Province, central Iran from the electronic population-based death registration system (EDRS) were obtained.

Short Course Brachytherapy in Locally Advanced Cervical Cancer; Safety and Response Rate.

Objective: Overall treatment time (OTT) is an important index for local control in patients with locally advanced‌ cervical cancer treated with definitive chemoradiation (External Beam Radiation Therapy (EBRT), Brachytherapy (BT) and concomittant chemotherapy). This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency and safety of reducing OTT by shortening the brachytherapy duration to one week in the intervention group copared to three weeks in the control group.

Method: The study was a non-randomized open-label phase II clinical trial, carried out on 49 cervical cancer patients (26 in intervention grouop and 23 in control group) who received EBRT concomitant with Cisplatin, followed by brachytherap in order to deliver 60 Gy  equivalent total doses in 2-Gy fractions (EQD2) to Intermediate Risk-Clinical Tumor Volume (IR-CTV) and 85-90 Gy EQD2 to High Risk-Clinical Tumor Volume (HR-CTV).

Quantitative SPECT/CT Metrics in Early Prediction of [Lu]Lu-DOTATATE Treatment Response in Gastroenteropancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor Patients.

Our objective is to explore quantitative imaging markers for early prediction of treatment response in patients with gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP-NETs) undergoing [Lu]Lu-DOTATATE therapy. By doing so, we aim to enable timely switching to more effective therapies in order to prevent time-resource waste and minimize toxicities. Patients diagnosed with unresectable or metastatic, progressive, well-differentiated, receptor-positive GEP-NETs who received 4 sessions of [Lu]Lu-DOTATATE were retrospectively selected.

Background: Preclinical research has identified the mechanisms via which bacteria influence cancer treatment outcomes. Clinical studies have demonstrated the potential to modify the microbiome in cancer treatment. Herein, we systematically analyze how gut microorganisms interact with chemotherapy and immune checkpoint inhibitors, specifically focusing on how gut bacteria affect the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of cancer treatment.

Relationship of microvascular density and tumor-associated macrophages with orofacial squamous cell carcinoma progression.

Objective: The current study aimed to investigate the characteristics of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and their association with microvascular density (MVD) in tumor progression in different grades of orofacial squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in the Pakistani population.

Study Design: This prospective study included 234 patients with oral cancer reported at different hospitals in Pakistan diagnosed with OSCC. Tumors were graded on the Anneroth grading system and the association between the frequency of TAMs and MVD was examined in vivo.

Considering that duloxetine has been used in treating neuropathies in recent years, this study aimed to investigate its effectiveness in preventing taxane-related neuropathy.

Therefore, we decided to investigate the association between dietary inflammatory index (DII) and the risk of protein-energy wasting (PEW) and sarcopenia in patients with CKD. In this cross-sectional study, 109 patients with CKD were selected from two clinics in Shiraz, Iran.
