Fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) in Air Handling Units (AHUs) ensure building functions such as energy efficiency and occupant comfort by quickly identifying and diagnosing faults. Combining deep learning with FDD has demonstrated high generalization ability in this field. To develop deep learning models, this research constructed a dataset sourced from real data collected from a large-scale office in South Korea.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short (about 18-24 nucleotides) non-coding RNAs and have emerged as potential biomarkers for various diseases, including cancers. Due to their short lengths, the specificity often becomes an issue in conventional amplification-based methods. Next-generation sequencing techniques could be an alternative, but the long analysis time and expensive costs make them less suitable for routine clinical diagnosis.

Accurate inspection of rebars in Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures is essential and requires careful counting. Deep learning algorithms utilizing object detection can facilitate this process through Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) imagery. However, their effectiveness depends on the availability of large, diverse, and well-labelled datasets.

Multiplexed bead assays for solution-phase biosensing often encounter cross-over reactions during signal amplification steps, leading to unwanted false positive and high background signals. Current solutions involve complex custom-designed and costly equipment, limiting their application in simple laboratory setup. In this study, we introduce a straightforward protocol to adapt a multiplexed single-bead assay to standard fluorescence imaging plates, enabling the simultaneous analysis of thousands of reactions per plate.

Purpose: To identify the impact of hypertension (HTN) on inner retinal layer thickness in patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR).

Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, participants were divided into three groups: type 2 diabetes patients without DR (DM group), patients with DR (DR group), and patients with both DR and HTN (DR+HTN group). The peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (pRNFL) and ganglion cell-inner plexiform layer (GC-IPL) thicknesses, measured using optical coherence tomography, were compared among the groups.

A novel online real-time video stabilization algorithm (LSstab) that suppresses unwanted motion jitters based on cinematography principles is presented. LSstab features a parallel realization of the RANSAC (AC-RANSAC) algorithm to estimate the inter-frame camera motion parameters. A novel least squares based smoothing cost function is then proposed to mitigate undesirable camera jitters according to cinematography principles.

Background: The variable number of tandem repeat (VNTR) analyses are methods based on the detection of repeated sequences within the human genome. In order to perform DNA typing at the personal laboratory, it is necessary to improve the VNTR analysis.

Objective: The VNTR markers were difficult to popularize because PCR amplification was difficult due to its GC-rich and long nucleotide sequence.

A real-time 3D visualization (RT3DV) system using a multiview RGB camera array is presented. RT3DV can process multiple synchronized video streams to produce a stereo video of a dynamic scene from a chosen view angle. Its design objective is to facilitate 3D visualization at the video frame rate with good viewing quality.

While the neuropathological characteristics of Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) result in a fatal diagnosis, the development of clinically available therapeutic agent remains a challenge. Here we propose graphene quantum dots (GQDs) as a potential candidate for the impaired functions in NPC in vivo. In addition to the previous findings that GQDs exhibit negligible long-term toxicity and are capable of penetrating the blood-brain barrier, GQD treatment reduces the aggregation of cholesterol in the lysosome through expressed physical interactions.

While graphene and its derivatives have been suggested as a potential nanomedicine in several biomimetic models, their specific roles in immunological disorders still remain elusive. Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) may be suitable for treating intestinal bowel diseases (IBDs) because of their low toxicity in vivo and ease of clearance. Here, GQDs are intraperitoneally injected to dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced chronic and acute colitis model, and its efficacy has been confirmed.

Existing laparoscopic surgery systems use a single laparoscope to visualize the surgical area with a limited field of view (FoV), necessitating maneuvering the laparoscope to search a target region. In some cases, the laparoscope needs to be moved from one surgical port to another one to detect target organs. These maneuvers would cause longer surgical time and degrade the efficiency of operation.

Although the generation of ETV2-induced endothelial cells (iECs) from human fibroblasts serves as a novel therapeutic strategy in regenerative medicine, the process is inefficient, resulting in incomplete iEC angiogenesis. Therefore, we employed chromatin immunoprecipitation (ChIP) sequencing and identified molecular mechanisms underlying ETV2-mediated endothelial transdifferentiation to efficiently produce iECs retaining appropriate functionality in long-term culture. We revealed that the majority of ETV2 targets in human fibroblasts are related to vasculature development and signaling transduction pathways, including Rap1 signaling.

Although human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) hold considerable promise as an alternative therapeutic reagent for allergic disorders including atopic dermatitis (AD), the strategy for enhancing hMSC-based therapy remains challenging. We sought to investigate whether preconditioning with mast cell (MC) granules could enhance the therapeutic efficiency of human umbilical cord blood-derived MSCs (hUCB-MSCs) against AD. AD was experimentally induced in NC/Nga mice by repeated applications of 4% sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and (Df) extract, and preconditioned hUCB-MSCs were subcutaneously injected.

We previously demonstrated that the direct transplantation of human umbilical cord blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hUCB-MSCs) into the dentate gyrus ameliorated the neurological symptoms of Niemann-Pick type C1 (NPC1)-mutant mice. However, the clinical presentation of NPC1-mutant mice was not fully understood with a molecular mechanism. Here, we found 14,15-epoxyeicosatrienoic acid (14,15-EET), a cytochrome P450 (CYP) metabolite, from hUCB-MSCs and the cerebella of NPC1-mutant mice and investigated the functional consequence of this metabolite.
