Islet transplantation is the most effective treatment strategy for type 1 diabetes. Long-term storage at ultralow temperatures can be used to prepare sufficient islets of good quality for transplantation. For freezing islets, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is a commonly used penetrating cryoprotective agent (CPA).

EtOH increased senescence activity, levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the expression of cell cycle regulators (p53, p21 and p16) and senescence-associated secretory phenotype () genes (interleukin [IL]-1β, IL-6, IL-8 and tumor necrosis factor-α) in HPDLCs and cementoblasts. Melatonin inhibited EtOH-induced senescence and the production of ROS as well as the increased expression of cell cycle regulators and SASP genes.
