Additive manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing, is a recent innovation in manufacturing, employing additive techniques rather than traditional subtractive methods. This study focuses on Directed Energy Deposition (DED), utilizing a blend of nickel-based superalloy IN 718 and stainless steel SS316 powders in varying ratios (25%+75%, 50%, and 75%+25%). The objective is to assess the impact of process parameters on quality and optimize them.

Purpose: We evaluated the effects of two doses (186 µg and 372 µg) of exhalation delivery system with fluticasone (EDS-FLU) on chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with nasal polyp as a novel sinonasal delivery system.

Methods: We analyzed 5 studies retrieved from PubMed, SCOPUS, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane databases up to April 2024, focusing on subjective and objective scores, and adverse and beneficial effects (responder and complete responder rates, improvements in Patient Global Impression of Change [PGIC] scores, and surgical indication rates before and after EDS-FLU use.

Results: Over 3 months, EDS-FLU significantly reduced polyp (mean difference [MD] - 1.

Objective: The association of sorbitol intake with maintaining healthy body weight through the gut microbiome during early life was investigated.

Research Methods And Procedures: Sorbitol intake, body mass index (BMI), and fecal samples were collected in the total of 369 pregnant women with their infants (aged 4 months to 5 years) from the Taipei Mother-Infant Nutrition Cohort and 1946 children and adolescents (aged 6-18 years) from the Taiwan Puberty Longitudinal Study. The BMI-z score in sorbitol users was compared to that in sorbitol nonusers using generalized linear mixed model.

Black rice bran, a waste product from the commercial milling of black rice that removes the bran and germ leaving the starchy endosperm, contains bioactive anthocyanin, phenolic, and phytosteroid compounds that may have health benefits. This study determined the effect of a polysaccharide-rich bioprocessed (fermented) black rice bran and a green tea extract individually and in combination on weight loss in orally fed mice on a high-fat diet and on concurrent changes in blood glucose and insulin as well as in cholesterol, triglyceride, and high-density and low-density lipoproteins (HDL and LDL). At the end of the eight-week feeding study, the combination diet resulted in a 67% lower weight gain than mice on a high-fat diet alone, a greater effect than that of bioprocessed black rice bran or green tea extract individually.

Introduction: Cigarette smoke (CS) invokes an inflammatory response associated with vascular dysfunction and atherosclerosis. The role of sex and nicotine in CS effects on cardiovascular function and atherosclerosis is unexplored.

Methods: Male and female C57Bl/6 WT (wild type) and ApoE-/- mice were exposed to CS and nicotine with access to chow and water ad libitum for 16 weeks to fill this gap.

Recent advancements in eco-friendly radical fluoroalkylation have substituted traditional two-electron-based reactions. However, the radical trifluoromethylation of terminal alkynes remains a significant challenge, primarily due to the high reactivity of alkenyl radical intermediates, which predominantly engage in reactions other than the desired elimination. In this work, we have developed an electrochemical trifluoromethylation method for terminal alkynes, facilitating the efficient formation of CF-alkynes.

As part of the National Water Management Basic Plan, this study conducted research to identify priority management watersheds in the Yeongsan River basin to respond to changes in water environmental conditions and improve water quality. Analysis of water quality over the past decade revealed that points located in the middle and lower of the Yeongsan River exceeded the target water quality standards. As based on the results, pollution sources and loads indicated that the W-1 watershed, classified as urban areas, exhibited high levels in residential, industrial, and urban landuse characteristics, whereas the W-6 watershed, classified as rural areas, showed high levels in livestock farming, aquaculture, and agricultural landuse (wet and dry filed) categories.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify risk factors for local recurrence after surgery in patients with metastatic spinal cord compression (MSCC), as this had not been well researched before.
  • A retrospective analysis of 304 patients revealed that local recurrence occurred in 16.4% of cases, with higher rates linked to certain surgical methods, tumor types, and the presence of multiple metastases or pathologic fractures.
  • Key findings indicated that decompression alone had a significantly higher recurrence rate compared to other surgical techniques, and factors like renal cell carcinoma, extensive spinal metastasis, and smoking were also associated with higher local recurrence risk.

Sensations of the internal state of the body play crucial roles in regulating the physiological processes and maintaining homeostasis of an organism. However, our understanding of how internal signals are sensed, processed, and integrated to generate appropriate biological responses remains limited. Here, we show that the C.

Bone graft substitutes to repair critical-sized bone fractures have experienced significant development over the last few decades. Among them, whitlockite (WH)-based bone grafts have proven to be effective in mediating bone healing. In the current study, a next generation, nature-inspired scaffold was developed with strontium-functionalized whitlockite nanoparticles (nSrWH) to enhance the intrinsic properties of WH.

Cyanobacteria from the orders Nostocales and certain Stigonematales form akinetes, spore-like dormant cells that allow them to survive adverse environmental conditions. Temperature is known to be one of the key factors affecting akinete formation, but there is currently little known about akinete formation during cell growth over a wide range of temperature conditions and its relation to the overall survival strategy of cyanobacteria. Therefore, in the current study, we conducted a temperature-controlled experiment to analyze the akinete formation of a harmful cyanobacterium Dolichospurmum circinale using a growth chamber.

  • The study analyzed the effectiveness and safety of telemedicine for chronic diseases in South Korea during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on a temporary telemedicine policy.
  • It utilized national health insurance claims data from before and after the policy's implementation, comparing patients who used telemedicine with those who did not across four chronic diseases.
  • Results indicated that telemedicine improved medication adherence for hypertension and diabetes without increasing hospital admissions, while those who did not use telemedicine faced higher admission rates.

This study designs a theoretical model and simulation model that can explain the welfare impacts of disease transmission that occurs in livestock trade. A household production model and a SIR model are used to find theoretical profitable conditions for infectious livestock trading and prices and quantities for transactions. Under the theoretical conditions an agent-based model is used to simulate livestock transactions to compare social impacts based on the number of livestock, household wealth and income, and wealth inequality.

The primary cilium is a paradigmatic subcellular compartment at the nexus of numerous cellular and morphogenetic pathways. The tubby family protein TULP3 acts as an adapter of the intraflagellar transport complex A in transporting integral membrane and membrane-associated lipidated proteins into cilia. However, the mechanisms by which TULP3 coordinates ciliary transport of diverse cargoes is not well understood.

Brookite exists as the metastable phase of titania and often mediates the transformation of anatase to rutile. The photocatalytic competence of brookite relative to polymorphs anatase and rutile has generally been considered structurally and energetically unfavourable for reasons that remain largely unknown and unchallenged. However, the process of phase transformation and performance related cooperativity among all three polymorphs has recently unlocked alternative directions for exploring brookite photovoltaics.

In this study, we demonstrate the emergence of NO gas sensing capabilities in the typically non-active NiWO, a strongly correlated electron system (SCES), by introducing substitutional Fe at the Ni site. NiWO typically exhibits strong Coulombic repulsion between Ni atoms, resulting in a large band gap of over 3.0 eV and insulating behavior.

Objectives: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a prevalent health issue that causes the irreversible loss of functioning nephrons, end-stage renal disease, cardiovascular disease, and premature mortality. Hypertension is the leading cause of CKD. However, the effect of long-term blood pressure (BP) changes on the development of CKD is still unknown.
