Background: Food antioxidants have received prompt attention for controlling oxidative stress encountered in daily life. This study aimed to examine the protective effects of Aronia berry extract (ABE) supplementation on acute aerobic exercise (AAE)-induced oxidative stress in healthy subjects.
Methods: We assessed a battery of antioxidant defence and oxidative stress parameters at pre-exercise, immediately post-exercise and 30 min post-exercise in healthy middle-aged adults with habitually low intakes of fruit and vegetables in an 8-week, double-blind, randomised, controlled clinical trial with two arms (n = 70).
The purpose of this study is to validate the use of subtraction images derived from gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI for observation of washout and enhancing capsule in the diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). For 120 histologically verified HCCs in 115 high-risk patients, the presence of washout and enhancing capsule in the portal venous phase (PVP) on conventional MR images with and without corresponding subtraction images was determined by two independent observers. The incremental value of subtraction imaging in upgrading the categories outlined in the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System (LI-RADS) version 2018 for the diagnosis of HCC was analyzed for different subgroups of patients classified on the basis of lesion size (< 10 mm, 10-19 mm, ≥ 20 mm), unenhanced T1-weighted signal intensity, and arterial phase hyperenhancement (APHE) of the lesions.

However, few studies have assessed the effect of EPS on the clinical course of MCI. We aimed to evaluate whether patients with EPS show more frequent progression from MCI to Alzheimer's disease (AD) and to other types of dementia.

Previous studies in the general population have shown that high occupational attainment is associated with reduced risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, few studies have assessed the effect of occupational attainment on the clinical course of mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

Objective: Extrapyramidal signs (EPS), commonly observed in Alzheimer disease (AD), predict cognitive impairment and functional decline. This study investigated the association between EPS and five cognitive subdomains in a large number of participants with AD.
Design: Cross-sectional analyses of the nationwide Clinical Research of Dementia of South Korea (CREDOS) study, 2005-2012.
Background: Extrapyramidal signs (EPSs) are commonly observed in patients with Alzheimer disease (AD). We report here the base rate of EPS in a large cohort of patients with AD who were not receiving neuroleptic drugs, and the associations of EPS with functional outcomes and depressive symptoms.
Methods: In a consortium involving 56 clinics, we recruited 2614 patients with AD.

Objective: Both clinical and biological factors influence the course of depressive disorders. This study tested for associations between the brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) gene at the Val66Met locus and the course of major depressive disorder (MDD).
Methods: Three hundred ten Korean subjects (209 patients, 101 controls) were genotyped for rs6265 at nucleotide 196 (G/A), which produces an amino acid substitution at codon 66 (Val66Met) of the gene for BDNF.

Rationale: Serotonin transporter (5-HTT) gene polymorphisms are linked with antidepressant response to selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor drugs (SSRIs), though the favorable allelic variant differs by ethnic group (Caucasian versus Korean or Japanese). In Caucasian patients, response also is linked to measures of platelet 5-HTT function.
Objectives: Here, we study both 5-HTT gene polymorphisms and 5-HTT function as determinants of antidepressant response to SSRIs in Korean patients.
The variable elevation of the groundwater table in the St. Louis area was estimated using multiple linear regression (MLR), ordinary kriging, and cokriging as part of a regional program seeking to assess liquefaction potential. Surface water features were used to determine the minimum water table for MLR and supplement the principal variables for ordinary kriging and cokriging.

Objective: THIS STUDY WAS CONDUCTED TO EXAMINE THE FOLLOWING: whether patients with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) show impairments in instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) as compared to controls; to identify the functional sub-domains of instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) that are affected in MCI and, finally, to identify the Seoul-Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (S-IADL) scale cut-off score that best differentiated between MCI and controls.
Methods: This study was carried out at the geropsychiatry clinic, university hospital. The study participants included 66 patients with MCI and 61 normal elderly.
